Celtic: Ryan Christie wanted by Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie, as reported by The Daily Record.

The Lowdown: Christie’s Celtic career

The 26-year-old has been at Parkhead since 2015 after signing from Inverness. He has gone on to make 142 appearances for the Hoops, scoring 40 times and registering 41 assists.

Christie, who was hailed by Liam Gallagher last year after Scotland qualified for the European Championships, has won five major honours at Celtic Park.

It seems as if he could well be on the way out of Parkhead, though, and a former World Cup winner seems to be a big fan of the Scot.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-8/” title=”Celtic updates” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Palace links

According to The Daily Mail, as cited by The Daily Record, Patrick Vieira will make Christie a priority target, with the Frenchman being announced as the new manager at Selhurst Park this afternoon.

Christie first caught Vieira’s eye during the 45-year-old’s time back in his native France, and it seems as if the Eagles could now swoop for the Hoops midfielder.

The Verdict: Sell

Should Palace come in with an offer close to Christie’s £6.3m Transfermarkt valuation, Celtic should not hesitate to take the money.

The 26-year-old has only six months remaining on his Hoops contract, so he could technically speak with Palace ahead of a free transfer in the New Year.

However, Palace need signings now after 11 senior players became free agents recently, while Celtic could do with the money this summer instead of losing him for nothing in January.

Corporate purchase concerns for Zimbabwe board

There are calls for investigations into Zimbabwe Cricket’s purchase of a company, Tatu Media Productions, amid more allegations that all is not quite as straightforward as it might seem

Steven Price in Harare26-May-2008There are calls for investigations into Zimbabwe Cricket’s purchase of a company, Tatu Media Productions, amid more allegations that all is not quite as straightforward as it might seem. There have been concerns doing the rounds over the relationship between ZC and Tatu for several weeks, and these became public at the weekend with a report in the Zimbabwean which claimed that profits from the company may have gone to board members rather than the board itself.Tatu was purchased by ZC for a sum believed to be around US$500,000 to “internally carry out graphics and printing jobs for ZC in order to cut costs”. It lists among its directors Ozias Bvute, ZC’s managing director, Lovemore Banda, ZC’s media manager, and other ZC officials.”It appears that Tatu was nothing but a private business project for the individuals despite their use of ZC equipment such as cars, fuel, furniture and computers,” the newspaper said. “ZC’s bloated media department worked from the company’s offices for some time,” adding that Tatu “cashed in on millions of dollars by billing ZC for jobs with inflated invoices”.The police are understood to be looking into claims, and this will be another embarrassment to the ICC which has steadfastly refused to reveal the findings of an internal forensic audit into ZC’s finances. The revelations are only likely to lead to renewed calls for the results of the audit to be made public.

Everton eyeing Lenglet

An update has emerged on Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet, regarding Everton’s interest in his services.

What’s the talk?

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Everton boss Rafa Benitez has told the club to pursue a deal for Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet as he attempts to bolster his defensive unit ahead of next season following his move to Merseyside.

The report claims that the Spaniard has been unimpressed by Yerry Mina, for club and country, and wants to replace him before the end of the transfer window. Lenglet is his ideal replacement for the Colombian international and Barcelona are said to value him at €20m (£17m).

Bye-bye Mina

It appears as though it is time to say bye-bye to Mina with Benitez not rating the centre-back.

The giant has not shown enough to convince the ex-Newcastle coach that he has what it takes to play for his side, which means that the club should now be looking to move him on in the coming weeks, unless Benitez is happy for him to be a back-up option in case of injury or suspension.

With Lenglet, Everton could be landing the dream replacement for him. The France international did not enjoy the best of seasons in a disrupted Barcelona side in the 2020/21 campaign, but has previously shown his quality at the very top level.

He averaged a steady WhoScored rating of 6.90 in 28 La Liga starts during the 2019/20 season, whilst he recorded a phenomenal score of 7.38 in a World Cup qualifier for his country earlier this year.

France national team manager Didier Deschamps once hailed Lenglet as an “effective” defender who has technical quality on the ball.

He began: “He had a great season with Barca.

“He has a lot of serenity, assurance and technical ease. He’s calm on the ball. Without being very big, he is also effective in duels and knows how to anticipate. He’s still improving but he gives off a lot of confidence.”

This shows that the 26-year-old beast has the ability to play at the top level for Barcelona and France, but has fallen off slightly in the past 12 months or so. Everton could reignite his career and land themselves a bargain by bringing him in for £17m to bolster their squad, potentially to play alongside Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey as part of a back three.

Deschamps also pointed out Lenglet’s quality in possession of the ball. He has achieved a pass completion rate of 92% in each of the last two seasons for Barcelona, showing that he has the technique and poise to play out from the back effectively.

This means that he could help Benitez defensively and offensively, as his ball-playing skills could start attacks and aid Everton’s transition play in the Premier League.

West Ham fans flock to Areola update

Flocking to Twitter, these West Ham United fans have voiced their opinions on a transfer update involving Paris-Saint Germain keeper Alphonse Areola.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to east London over these past few days, with Foot Mercato originally breaking news of a possible loan-to-buy deal in the works.

Areola spent the 2020/2021 season on loan at Fulham in the Premier League and drew praise from ex-Cottagers boss Scott Parker, who called him ‘exceptional’ (football.london).

West Ham have also been tipped to target new shot stoppers this summer despite agreeing an extension for current number one Lukasz Fabianski, with Sam Johnstone previously mentioned as a target (football.london).

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-updates/” title=”West Ham updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Now, L’Equipe have brought an update on West Ham’s pursuit of Areola, claiming they have indeed entered negotiations for the shot stopper.

However, while the Irons want a loan with the option to buy, PSG are eager to secure his straight summer sale.

Flocking to this update, which one Irons fan called ‘amazing’, other supporters also dropped a variety of takes on social media.

While some are mixed on West Ham’s approach to loan rather than buy, there are a handful of Hammers fans who are very eager to see Areola come to east London regardless.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul will battle through the discomfort after Chris Gayle promised his trio of injured senior players would face Australia in the second ODI at Grenada on Friday. Chanderpaul missed the opening match on Tuesday, which West Indies lost by 84 runs, while Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan turned out despite groin complaints. With West Indies desperate for victory to avoid a 2-0 deficit, Gayle confirmed Chanderpaul’s calf injury had healed enough for him to play. Chanderpaul was immoveable during the Test series, when he scored 442 runs in the three games, and his inclusion will be a boost for the hosts.”They will play in this game, everybody is back,” Gayle said. “The majority of the senior players are carrying injuries, not everybody is 100% at this time.”Gayle’s issue is a long-standing one, but he appeared in the third Test and the opening one-day game. He picked up 20 as West Indies fell for 189 and captured 1 for 55. “I’m feeling good,” he said. “The injury is getting better, I gave you guys ten overs on the trot, I’m trying to play my part in the team.”The West Indies felt they bowled badly in the first contest and they will try to take advantage of what Ricky Ponting has called a subcontinent-style surface in Grenada. “Obviously we want to square the series and try and bounce back as quickly as possible,” Gayle said. “We don’t want them to get away to 2-0.”

Aston Villa: Fans react to Keinan Davis loan interest

Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis is being lined up by no fewer than nine Sky Bet Championship clubs this summer for a loan switch, according to The Athletic [via Birmingham Mail].

Making 85 senior appearances since coming through the ranks at Villa Park, the 23-year old has registered 13 goal contributions, with six goals and seven assists to his name [Transfermarkt].

However, having never managed to nail down a consistent first team berth, he now looks set for a move to the English second tier.

Although no interested clubs have been specified by reports, nine separate suitors have been accredited with an attraction towards the Stevenage-born striker [Birmingham Mail].

Needing regular football at a critical stage of his development, a loan switch may be the perfect tonic to reignite Davis’ career, and plenty of Aston Villa fans took to Twitter to express their agreement with the club’s plans to loan him out.

Venues decided by rotation policy – BCCI secretary

The BCCI has responded to the England board’s statement by saying that the venues were decided according to a rotation policy

Cricinfo staff15-Jul-2008The BCCI has responded to the England board’s statement, in which they expressed “disappointment” at the proposed itinerary for the tour of India, by saying that the venues were decided according to a rotation policy.”We would like to remind the ECB that our venues are always decided on the basis of a rotation policy,” Niranjan Shah, the BCCI secretary, told Cricketnirvana.com. “The itinerary for the England tour has been finalised on the basis of this rotation policy.”The main concern surrounds the grounds for the seven-match one-day series. Instead of playing at stadiums like Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, England are scheduled to visit Rajkot, Indore, Kanpur, Jamshedpur, Cuttack, Guwahati and Delhi.A statement from the ECB said that “despite representations, the itinerary didn’t offer the thousands of supporters who follow the England team abroad, the opportunity to experience more of the great cricket grounds of India.”Shah, however, questioned the ECB’s decision to complain. “We do not quite understand how and why the ECB has chosen to air its grievances over this policy in the media,” Shah said. “Whenever the Indian team has toured England, some of the venues have not been up to the mark in terms of facilities for Indian players and supporters. However, we have complied and gone ahead and played, for it is the host board’s prerogative to fix the itinerary.”England will play seven ODIs, two Tests and three warm-up matches during their tour which begins on November 6 and ends on December 23.

Sharad Pawar, the ICC vice-president, will continue as BCCI president till the end of his term in September. The ICC has amended its constitution during its annual conference to clarify that its vice-president, like the president, cannot hold dual posts. However, Pawar has been allowed a “grace period” to hold both posts since his term as BCCI president ends in another three months.”I can confirm that Mr Pawar has decided to continue as BCCI president till September,” Niranjan Shah, the secretary of the Indian board, said. “Anyway, I believe the next ICC meeting he is scheduled to attend as its vice president comes after he steps down from the BCCI, so this is just a matter of procedure.”David Morgan, the ICC’s new president, had similarly stayed on as ECB chairman for a few months after he was named as president-elect last year, till Giles Clarke took over the England board. It was previously believed that Pawar would have to step down from the BCCI, in favour of an interim three-month arrangement in India, as soon as his role in the ICC was formalised at the annual conference. Shashank Manohar, the BCCI president-elect, will take over from Pawar at the Indian board’s annual meeting in September.

West Ham United: Fans react to Danny Ings update

West Ham United are said to be keeping a keen eye on Southampton forward Danny Ings as they step up their summer recruitment drive, according to reliable insider ExWHUEmployee.

Enjoying a productive 2020/21 campaign, the England internationalist registered 17 goal contributions in 33 appearances; 14 goals and three assists [Transfermarkt].

Now, there could be an opening for the 29-year-old to leave the South Coast, following the news that he rejected a new four year deal with his current employers [Sky Sports].

ExWHUEmployee suggested that the Irons are keeping a keen eye on the forward in the latest episode of his podcast the West Ham Way.

In light of this news, these West Ham United took to Twitter to give their opinions to this intriguing topic.

West Ham United FC fans react:

Replying to popular West Ham United fan outlet West Ham Fan Zone’s own tweet about the matter, where it was suggested that Ings would not be a good signing for the Hammers, these fans gave their own thoughts about the England striker.
