Lancashire enjoyed another dominant day against Surrey to take charge of their County Championship clash at Old Trafford, with centurion Alviro Petersen starring.Bidding to go top of Division One with a third win from five, Lancashire made a strong reply to 191 despite losing their first three wickets for only 16 runs just after lunch on day two and six wickets after tea. Petersen’s 105 off 108 balls represented his 40th first-class hundred, including 17 fours and a six, as the hosts posted 342 for nine from 108 overs – a lead of 151.The 99 shared between Tom Smith and Haseeb Hameed was Lancashire’s highest opening partnership of the season. Smith made 59 and Hameed 44 before both fell as the score slipped to 115 for 3 in the 55th over.Petersen, who reached 14,000 first-class career runs during his innings, and Steven Croft (42) then ensured Surrey’s fightback was only brief as they added 148 inside 30 overs for the fourth wicket either side of tea. The former South Africa Test player posted his fourth 50 plus score in his last five innings.Gareth Batty made the breakthrough for Surrey when he trapped Smith lbw just after lunch. Tom Curran then uprooted Luke Procter’s middle and off stumps as he shouldered arms before Stuart Meaker forced Hameed to chop on as he tried to cut a short ball.Petersen and Croft both hit sixes off Batty – over long-on and square-leg respectively – as they provided the impetus to Lancashire’s reply.Petersen has an excellent record in Championship matches against Surrey, scoring three hundreds in nine innings for Glamorgan, Somerset and Lancashire. He hit Batty for three fours in four balls early in his innings and later reached 50 off 63 balls. The pair’s century partnership came up in the first over after tea as they took the score to 215 for 3 in the 77th over. Petersen reached his hundred off 104 balls with 16 fours and a six, going from 50 to 100 in only 41, before falling shortly afterwards to Meaker – caught behind off the bottom edge as he tried to leave alone as the score fell to 263 for 4 in the 84th.Croft followed lbw to Curran in the 91st over with 281 on the board before Alex Davies chipped Meaker to square leg and Tom Bailey was run out following a mix-up, with both wickets falling in the 95th over to leave the score at 293 for 7.Curran claimed his third wicket when Liam Livingstone edged behind in the 103rd over before Batty trapped Neil Wagner lbw sweeping in the next. Simon Kerrigan and Kyle Jarvis will aim to secure the eight runs needed in two overs on day three for a fourth batting bonus point.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Arsenal are still in with a chance of signing Raphinha this summer amid their past interest.
What's the latest Arsenal transfer news?
It's no secret that the Gunners wanted to sign the Brazilian winger last summer when he opted to join Catalan giants Barcelona instead.
Indeed, Arsenal saw at least one offer for Raphinha rejected by Leeds United before he eventually headed to La Liga in a £55m transfer.
However, it sounds as though he could potentially be on the market at the end of the current season as Barcelona may have to sell some stars if they want to fulfil their transfer ambitions this summer.
Indeed, while speaking on NUFC Matters, Jacobs claimed that an Arsenal deal for Raphinha is "one to watch" as Barca consider a reunion with Lionel Messi.
He explained: (32:10): “To get Messi back, they're going to have to sell other players. Franck Kessie is another one. But again, Barca say they don't want to sell him.
"Eric Garcia might go, Ferran Torres might go, Marcus Alonso might go. They're going to need three or four exits. So there is a window of opportunity.
"I still think that if Raphinha becomes available on the market, Arsenal might be back, because they were really seriously interested in him, before Chelsea hijacked and agreed a fee, and then Barcelona came in and sort of usurped Chelsea.
"So they could be one to watch.”
Will Arsenal try to sign Raphinha again?
Raphinha, who was hailed as "spontaneous", has enjoyed a pretty decent first season in Spain as he's played regularly for manager Xavi, with 45 outings in total – scoring ten goals and providing 11 assists.
With that in mind, Barcelona might not have any huge desire to sell the 26-year-old. After all, it's not as if he's been a major flop.
Raphinha-Barcelona
However, the idea of bringing back Messi to La Liga seems to be an idea that excites the Spanish club very much.
For instance, Xavi recently told the press (via TalkSport): “I have already said that this is his home and his doors are open. He is a friend and we are in permanent contact.
“It will depend a lot on him, what he wants to do in the future, what fits in at the club. This is his home.
“The best footballer in the world and the story would always fit.”
With that being the case, Raphinha – who is reportedly on £210k-p/w wages – could be one way of raising money to fund a move for Messi this summer.
And so, perhaps Arsenal will be ready to pounce if the opportunity arises.
Arsenal have made great strides in the last couple of years, emerging from the wilderness under Mikel Arteta to become genuine title challengers this season.
The Gunners have relied heavily on young stars to get back to a position of strength, none more so than tricky winger Bukayo Saka, who has become a shining light on their journey back to mixing it among the elite of English football.
Regardless if they succeed or fail in their quest to finalise a first Premier League winning triumph since 2004, Arsenal have already secured qualification for the Champions League, where they will mark their return to the competition after a six-year absence.
With impressive achievements comes greater expectations and the north London outfit will be expected to enter the transfer market for some high-profile reinforcements this summer.
West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice has been heavily linked with a switch to the Emirates in the off-season to provide a touch of class in the middle of the park, though reports suggest that it may cost as much as £120 million to entice the 24-year-old to move across London.
As Arsenal enter a new era following an underwhelming period in the late 2010s and early 2020s until last season, both Saka and Rice could have a pivotal role to play in shaping the Gunners' future success.
How have Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice faired this season?
Both players have been among the cream of the crop in the Premier League this term, playing a major part in helping their respective clubs move closer to their objectives.
Starting with Saka, the 21-year-old has been in fine form for Arsenal, registering an awe-inspiring 14 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances encompassing all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.
Rice has also helped out on the goal contribution front for the Hammers despite being utilised primarily as a defensive midfielder, chipping in with four goals and four assists in 44 outings, as cited once more by Transfermarkt.
The combined £130k-a-week duo Saka and Rice have also shown their capacity to churn out consistent performances at will in 2022/23, respectively achieving an average match rating for their exploits on the pitch of 7.41 and 7.05, according to WhoScored.
Interestingly, the pair already have a strong bond together, both at England on the field and as friends as the pair have been described as being very close to each other.
Journalist Paul Brown thinks that Rice would improve immeasurably if he moved to Arsenal and linked up with his England teammate Bukayo Saka and other Gunners first-team stars.
Speaking to Football FanCast, Brown said about Rice in particular: "Watching him link up with the likes of Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, all of those players, I think they would improve him. I think Declan Rice going to a better team than West Ham would make him an even better player. I think that would be great to see personally."

Declan Rice's stats are quite astonishing this season, as he currently ranks 1st in the Premier League for interceptions and 9th for progressive carrying with the ball (FBRef). These are two stats that could massively improve an Arsenal midfield that currently has the like of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey pulling the strings. Indeed, the pair have been good this season but clearly not as good as Rice, who has the ability to bring counter attacks to a halt with his interceptions, and then has the drive to move forward and possibly even start counter attacks, which will be news to the ears of the speedy Bukayo Saka.
The Gunners have conceded 12 goals in their last six games, so it's clear that things aren't perfect at the back. Rice offers that extra layer of protection with the interceptions mentioned above. As well as this, he is 6th in the Premier League this season for tackles, which further strengthens his argument to be the shield Arteta needs in front of his defence.
As well as Arsenal potentially taking Rice to the next level, it has been claimed by former professional footballer Paul Parker that Rice can take a "team to the next level", so it really could be a win-win for both the club and Rice as a player.
Interestingly, it was claimed that Arteta was hatching a bit of a plan to open talks and convince the midfielder to join the Gunners as soon as the season ends, with an "official" approach.
Arsenal are in a position they've longed to be in for some time and genuinely look like they have a young crop of talent that is growing with every passing moment on the elite stage.
Adding Rice into the mix this summer with players such as Saka and company around him would aid the Gunners in their mission to take that next step and may help them to realise their ambitions both in domestic football and on the continent moving forward.
Sanjay Bangar has been appointed India’s batting coach for their four-Test tour of West Indies. Abhay Sharma, who had been with the team in Zimbabwe as fielding coach, has been retained for the series in the Caribbean
ESPNcricinfo staff25-Jun-2016Sanjay Bangar has been re-appointed India’s batting coach for their four-Test tour of West Indies. Abhay Sharma, who had been with the team in Zimbabwe as fielding coach, has been retained for the series in the Caribbean.Bangar had been the batting coach when Ravi Shastri had been team director for nearly two years from August 2014. His contract lapsed after the end of the World T20 in April, but was put in charge of the Indian team on an interim basis for the limited-overs series in Harare. The appointments were made after consulting with India’s new head coach Anil Kumble, but a BCCI release was specific that they pertained only to the seven weeks they would be playing against the West Indian teams from July 6. There won’t be a bowling coach travelling with the Indian team making Bangar the only one of the previous support staff, which had also included to B Arun and R Sridhar, to be retained.Regarding the absence of a bowling coach, BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke told : “Anil himself is one of the greatest bowlers. He insisted on not having a bowling coach for the West Indies tour since he is in charge.”Abhay Sharma had previously worked with Rahul Dravid and the India A and Under-19 teams. He was also among the Rest of India staff when they beat Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai in the 2016 Irani Cup.

Glenn Maxwell has said his offspin will remain crucial if he is to nail down a long-term place in Australia’s Test-match plans

Glenn Maxwell has admitted it will be difficult for him to take the second spinner’s slot in Australia’s Test team, given he turns the ball the same way as Nathan Lyon, Australia’s lead spinner•BCCI
Glenn Maxwell has said his offspin will remain crucial if he is to nail down a long-term place in Australia’s Test-match plans. Batting is Maxwell’s primary skill, but he does not want to go down the path taken by Steven Smith, whose rapid rise since his comeback to the Test team in 2013, after two years out, followed a decision to focus more on his batting.”I don’t think I can rest on just being a batsman,” Maxwell told . “I know Steve Smith went that way when he lost his Test spot, not really bowling much at all. But I don’t think I can go that direction. I have to keep working on both parts of my game and make sure they’re good enough.”I’ve decided not to play in England for the first time in four years. It might be a good chance to get a pre-season under my belt and spend a bit of time working on my game.”Maxwell was part of the Test squad that was scheduled to tour Bangladesh last year, but did not do so owing to security concerns. But he has not found a place in the 15-man squad for Australia’s next subcontinental assignment, the Sri Lanka tour in July-August, with Moises Henriques, a seam-bowling allrounder, taking his place.Steve O’Keefe, who bowls left-arm orthodox, is the second spinner in the squad, and Maxwell has admitted it will be difficult for him to take that slot, given he turns the ball the same way as Nathan Lyon, Australia’s lead spinner.”Competing with Nathan Lyon is always going to be tough,” Maxwell said. “I’ve just got to improve my batting to the point where they can’t resist having me as an allrounder and a back-up to him.”With the bat, Maxwell has shown good red-ball form in the limited first-class opportunities he has had in recent months, amidst all his limited-overs commitments. In the six Sheffield Shield matches he played in the 2015-16 season, Maxwell made 392 runs at an average of 56.00, with four half-centuries and a highest score of 98. Still, he feels he will need to keep scoring runs, starting with the ODI triangular in the West Indies, to keep himself in the frame for Test selection.”If I can make some runs then and also hopefully in Sri Lanka for the one-day series, it still puts pressure on those guys in the squad,” Maxwell said. “I was obviously a bit disappointed initially but having a look at the squad they’ve picked for Sri Lanka, I can understand. They’ve got all bases covered. I think it’s a squad that is going to win the series. It’s a really strong squad and I fully understand why I’m not in it.”
Man City are leading Chelsea in the race to sign Ethan Nwaneri on a deal from Arsenal according to Football Insider.
What is the latest on Ethan Nwaneri to Man City?
Pep Guardiola's side already have a talented squad, as proven by the side once again leading the division. If City can top the table this season and claim the title, it will be their seventh Premier League crown.
Part of the reason for their success is their manager's ability to bring through his side's younger talents and to coach more established players to be even better. Phil Foden is the most notable example at the Etihad Stadium, with the England international managing 16 goal contributions in just 18 starts this campaign – his best ever total. In fact, the forward has made gradual improvement ever since being brought into the first-team fold by Guardiola back in 2017/18.
Guardiola has also given gametime to the likes of Rico Lewis and Cole Palmer this campaign, as he looks to bring the next crop of talent through. Now though, the manager has his sights set on another gem that he wants to bring to City.
That man is Ethan Nwaneri, who has already broken records by becoming the youngest player to ever play in the Premier League. At 15 years and 181 days old, his Arsenal debut as a substitute against Brentford gave him that honour. He is seen as a real talent by City according to Football Insider, and with the team desperate to add some of the brightest young players to their squad, the report adds that they are set to make an offer for him this summer.
Arsenal-Ethan-Nwaneri-Premier-League
Chelsea are also keen to sign Nwaneri but it is City who appear to be leading the chase in "pole position" and they think a deal can be completed.
Should Man City sign Ethan Nwaneri?
There is little to go off in terms of data around the 16-year-old as of yet, purely because of his age and his lack of playing time in a first-team squad.
However, the signs are that he could become an exceptionally good player when you consider how young he was when awarded his debut. Mikel Arteta would not have given the player minutes if he didn't rate the midfielder highly and it suggests the Spaniard sees big things in Nwaneri.
For the Gunners' reserves though, he has certainly shone. In ten appearances for the club's Under-18s, he has produced four goals and three assists. That's despite his youth and his position on the field. In addition, he's already been selected for both the England U16 and U17 sides – and has bagged eight goals in 18 games.
Nwaneri then does look a really bright prospect and if City can poach him, it could be a real coup for the side.
