Shahbaz Nadeem’s four-for and a rapid 86 from Ishan Kishan helped Jharkhand cruise into the semi-finals of the Ranji Trophy. Jharkhand’s previous appearance in the semi-final came in the 2004-05 plate league, and this is the first time they will play at this stage of the competition since the tournament was restructured.Haryana had ended the fourth day with an overall lead of 59 and eight wickets in hand with the top four making important contributions. Their innings, however, unraveled quickly against Jharkhand’s spinners, Nadeem and legspinner Samar Quadri, as Haryana went from 178 for 2 to 193 for 7 within 10 overs. Nadeem, who had taken seven wickets in the first innings, took his match haul to 11 wickets with 4 for 78 in the second innings and Quadri took 3 for 75. This was the second time Nadeem finished with more than 10 wickets in a match in this season.Haryana’s dismissal for 262 left Jharkhand with a target of 176. Kishan stepped up with a 61-ball 86 which included nine fours and six sixes. His partnerships with opener Anand Singh and Virat Singh both came at more than five runs an over and by the time he was dismissed in the 24th over, Jharkhand had raced to 139. They took only another seven overs to complete the chase.

Three wickets in the last half hour of the day from left-arm spinner Vijay Gohil took Mumbai close to a win against Hyderabad who were seven wickets down and 111 away from their target of 232. Even though Mohammed Siraj’s five-for kept Mumbai to 217 and Hyderabad got off to a decent start in the first 15 overs of the chase, Gohil’s second five-for in as many matches made Hyderabad slide in what could have been a memorable win in a quarter-final against the defending champions.Hyderabad opener Akshath Reddy fell early when he was caught behind off Abhishek Nayar for 1 in the fourth over. Tanmay Agarwal and No. 3 Balchander Anirudh could bat for just over 11 overs together when two quick wickets from Gohil dented the chase. Agarwal handed a return catch and captain S Badrinath fell for 1, leaving them at 45 for 3. Anirudh and Bavanaka Sandeep brought the innings back on track with a stand of 44, but Abhiesh Nayak bowled Sandeep for 25 to help Mumbai bounce back. Soon after Hyderabad crossed 100 with four wickets down, Gohil troubled the lower order with the wickets of K Sumanth (14), Mehdi Hassan (4) and Akash Bhandari (4) to slim Hyderabad’s chances of winning.Earlier, Mumbai resumed the day on 102 for 3 and extended their lead with the help of Aditya Tare’s 57 and Siddhesh Lad’s 46. That they could add only 115 for seven wickets was because of Siraj. Once Praful Waghela fell for 28, Siraj dismissed Tare, and Mumbai lost their last six wickets for 70 runs. Siraj finished with 5 for 52, his maiden five-for in first-class matches.

Overnight batsman Samit Gohel batted all day with a string of partners to take Gujarat to 514 for 8 against Odisha. Gohel, who started the day on 110, added another 151 runs on the fourth day to increase their lead to a massive 578 runs.Gohel, whose previous highest score in first-class cricket was 104, reached his double-century just before tea, after Manpreet Juneja fell for 24. Gohel added 78 runs for the fifth wicket with Parthiv Patel (40) and followed that up with small partnerships with Chirag Gandhi, Rush Kalaria and Mehul Patel to take Gujarat to 453 for 8, before an unbeaten 61-run partnership with No. 10 Hardik Patel saw him move past 250 and Gujarat past 500. Left-arm spinner Dhiraj Singh, who removed Parthiv, Gandhi and Kalaria, finished the day on 5 for 139, his fourth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket.

Lanning, White claim domestic crowns

Meg Lanning was named the women’s cricketer of the year and Cameron White won the men’s domestic player of the year at Cricket Australia’s annual awards function

Meg Lanning’s anointing as Australia’s finest women’s cricketer of the year was an achievement because it was so expected. Cameron White’s return to the dais as domestic men’s player of the year, after also doing the trick in 2014, was equally laudable because it was not.As captain of Australia, the Melbourne Stars and also Victoria, Lanning has dealt with the weight of expectation for quite a few years now. A sweep of the Belinda Clark award as the most accomplished player in the Southern Stars, plus the inaugural women’s domestic prize, showed exactly how well she had dealt with it over the course of 2016.Domestic votes breakdown

Domestic Men’s Player of the Year: Cameron White (47.90% of the vote)
Runners up: Travis Head (17.65%), Peter Handscomb and Chadd Sayers (5.88% each)
Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year: Hilton Cartwright (41.07%)
Runners up: Jake Weatherald (26.79%), Matthew Renshaw (8.04%)
Domestic Women’s Player of the Year: Meg Lanning (50%)
Runners up: Alex Blackwell (11.43%), Molly Strano (10%)
Betty Wilson Young Cricketer of the Year: Sophie Molineux (36.36%)
Runners up: Georgia Redmayne (28.79%), Ashleigh Gardner (24.24%)

Three Clark Medals meant Lanning is now only one short of the overall record for multiple garlands – four apiece shared by Shelley Nitschke and Karen Rolton. Lanning’s 51 votes pushed her ahead of last year’s winner Ellyse Perry (43 votes) and Jess Jonassen (33).For White, the sensation was more of proving pundits, critics, coaches and selectors wrong. He spent much of last summer out of Victoria’s first XI, only recalled towards the end of the Sheffield Shield season. However a match-saving century against New South Wales in Alice Springs played a major part in allowing Victoria to sneak into and ultimately win the Shield final, over South Australia.White followed up with 378 runs and another century during the first half of the Shield competition this time around, as a different Victoria regime helmed by Andrew McDonald saw fit to include him in the side more consistently. In addition he put on a domineering display in the Matador Cup to start the season, while also performing creditably for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League. He polled 47.5% of the vote for the award, well ahead of the next-best Travis Head, on 17.65%. That differential also sent a pointed message from the nation’s players to the selectors, coaches and planners at Cricket Australia – performance, not potential, remains their primary measure of a peer’s quality, something White has in spades.Lanning’s carrying off the Clark Medal for the third time was highlighted by an exceptionally-strong ODI year, featuring an innings of 134 to sink South Africa in Canberra in November. In addition to being a match-winner, the century gave Lanning nine ODI hundreds, the most by an Australian surpassing Rolton and equalling Charlotte Edwards with the most for any nation. In four matches of the Women’s National Cricket League, Lanning also piled up 359 runs and two centuries, including one worth 190 – bettering her own record for the highest score in any WNCL match. While Lanning was unable to get as far as three figures in her Women’s Big Bash League matches during the voting period, a top-score of 97 not out stood tall among five half centuries and another 502 runs. In all it earned her precisely 50% of the vote, leaving all others trailing in her wake.Other award winners included the allrounder Hilton Cartwright, who claimed the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year prize well ahead of South Australia’s fluent left-hander Jake Weatherald and the recent Test debutant Matt Renshaw. Cartwright’s award will be some consolation after he had the strange experience of making his Test debut in Sydney and then was left out altogether from the tour squad for India. The first award of the Betty Wilson Female Young Cricketer of the Year prize – Wilson was also inducted to the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame on the night – went to Lanning’s fellow Victorian, Sophie Molineux.

Declan Rice Latest: Arsenal Now Ready To Make Third Bid

Arsenal are set to make a third bid for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, who is pushing for a move to the Emirates Stadium, according to a report

What's the latest on Declan Rice to Arsenal?

The Gunners have already had multiple bids for Rice rejected, the most recent of which amounting to £75m plus £15m in add-ons, a club record offer, with Manchester City also now joining the race for his signature.

In the same report, it is detailed that Man City have held talks with the Hammers, although they are yet to lodge a formal offer, as they want assurances that he wants to make the move to the Etihad Stadium before entering negotiations.

Fabrizio Romano has recently confirmed "the race remains open", with City making direct contact with the West Ham captain, however all the indications are that he still has his heart set on a move to north London.

According to a report from Football Transfers, the England international is pushing for a move to Arsenal, having already agreed personal terms, and he is likely to make the switch, despite increased movement from Man City in recent weeks.

A third bid is expected in the coming days, which is sure to be closer to West Ham's asking price of £100m, and the Gunners are still in the driving seat for his signature.

How much will Declan Rice cost?

There have been some reports that West Ham could demand as much as £120m for the Englishman this summer, which would make him Arsenal's record signing by a considerable distance, but there are strong indications that he would be worth it.

Hailed as a "terrific player" by manager David Moyes, the West Ham star averaged 1.7 interceptions per game in the Premier League last season, the joint-third highest amount in the top flight, while he also poses a threat on the front foot.

Moyes has praised the central midfielder for his "power and speed", adding that he has the potential to become a "very good goalscoring midfielder player", and Jack Wilshere previously lauded him as the "best finisher" at West Ham.

Rice still has some work to do before becoming a world-class player, considering he only managed to score four league goals last season, however he has been showing very promising signs, and it is a real boost he is set to choose Arsenal over Man City.

Chelsea Deal To Sign £75m "Machine Man" At The "Final Stage"

Chelsea completing a deal to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo is now at the "final stage", according to reliable journalist Rudy Galetti.

Is Moises Caicedo leaving Brighton?

Back in January, Brighton’s defensive midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and he even penned an open letter on his social media channels confirming that he wanted to leave, but instead he ended up signing a new long-term contract until 2027, likely so that he could be sold for more during the summer.

The Ecuador international has recently been attracting significant interest from Mauricio Pochettino in SW6 with the Daily Mail claiming that the Blues have already seen a £60m opening offer rejected, but having seemingly since returned to the negotiating table, it appears that all financial roadblocks have been resolved.

The Stamford Bridge outfit will have a more healthy budget now that the likes of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic have been sold from their engine room, and the 21-year-old looks like he could be one of the central reinforcements making his way to London.

Are Chelsea signing Caicedo?

Taking to Twitter, Galetti revealed that Chelsea and Brighton are close to reaching a full agreement for the sale of Caicedo, with the player having already personally said yes to the giants in the Premier League. He wrote:

"Moises Caicedo, the talks between Chelsea and Brighton are entering in the final stage. Understand the 2 clubs agreed the fixed amount of the transfer (£75m) and now they are discussing the add-ons. Moises is keen to join CFC and he’s pushing for the move."

Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

What could Caicedo bring to Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea and Pochettino will be aware that Caicedo is much stronger in the natural defensive midfield aspect of his game having recorded just one goal and assist in the top-flight last season, so he could bring an excellent layer of protection to the backline should he sign on the dotted line.

The Futbol Division client won 50 out of his 100 tackles during the previous campaign which was not only the highest-success rate but also the most made throughout the whole of his squad, via FBRef, alongside averaging 1.5 interceptions per game in the Premier League.

Brighton’s “Machine Man”, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, would also add wonderful versatility to the manager’s ranks with his ability to operate higher up in central midfield and even at right-back alongside his usual role, and if possible, he would only excel further under the leadership of Pochettino.

Pachhara leads Services to victory on debut

Amit Pachhara, the 21-year old on T20 debut, led Services to a four-wicket victory off the penultimate ball of a 15-overs-a-side game against Himachal Pradesh in Dharamsala. Pachhara came to the crease with his team on 48 for 4 in the sixth over chasing 129, and struck an unbeaten 47 off 30 balls, with three sixes and three fours. His knock redressed a top-order wobble after Pankaj Jaiswal took two wickets in two overs to spur Himachal Pradesh’s hopes of defending their total. They had got to 128 with a late surge from Amit Kumar (34 off 24), Rishi Dhawan (37* off 24) and Bipul Sharma (10* off 4) but as has become custom, the side chasing in a shortened game came out on top.File photo – Jayant Yadav conceded just 10 runs in his four overs as Haryana defended 153 against Punjab•BCCI

In a match where batsmen outside of the top four in either team couldn’t score in double figures, Haryana inflicted a collapse on Punjab to win by 47 runs. Haryana posted 153 after being put in, thanks to a 73-run alliance for the second wicket between debutant Shubham Rohilla (37 off 34) and Rajat Paliwal (44 off 39). No. 4 batsman Shivam Chauhan, also on debut, then hit a 24-ball 41 even as the middle order collapsed around him to lift Haryana to 153 for 7. In reply, Punjab’s loss of an early wicket was offset by Manan Vohra (24 off 27) and Jaskaranveer Singh (27 off 20), as the pair put on 45 for the second wicket. But they succumbed to the spin duo of Jayant Yadav and Rahul Tewatia, who finished with figures of 3 for 23 between them in eight overs. Sanjay Pahal then stuck to the pattern of memorable debuts, as he ran through the lower-middle order to finish with 3 for 8. Punjab folded for 106.Unmukt Chand struck two fours and four sixes in his unbetaen 49•PTI

Unmukt Chand struck an unbeaten 49 as Delhi made light work of Jammu & Kashmir’s 104-run target, winning by six wickets with 22 balls to spare. Only two J&K batsmen – Shubham Khajuria and Pranav Gupta – managed to cross 20 after they were put in to bat. Left-arm spinner Manan Sharma applied the brakes to take 2 for 13 off his four overs. Delhi were rocked early when they lost Gautam Gambhir in the second over. Chand then added 61 with Shikhar Dhawan (30) to help Delhi drive ahead and smoothen the passage for victory.

West Ham Eye "Unplayable" Antonio Heir In £25m Swoop At London Stadium

West Ham United will surely be heading into the 2023/2024 campaign full of confidence having not only won a major European trophy, but also guaranteeing another season of continental football due to their Europa Conference League success.

David Moyes will be hoping to juggle the demands of European and Premier League football better than he did last term, as the Hammers struggled throughout the domestic season, eventually finishing 14th in the table, winning just 11 matches, five fewer than the previous campaign.

With this in mind, Moyes may wish to improve the depth of his squad to better cope with the hectic schedule which is likely to follow during 2023/2024 and with Declan Rice certain to move on, he will surely have plenty of funds to play with.

The club have recently been linked with a move for Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres and Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the club are “ready to push” in order to bring him to London this summer.

He has been valued at £25m by the Sky Blues and this shouldn’t represent a problem for Moyes, especially considering he could be an ideal Michail Antonio heir.

Could Viktor Gyokeres join West Ham United?

A move is certainly a possibility considering that the club will be playing European football once again next term and the Swede may see this as a major incentive.

Having scored 14 goals across all competitions last term, Antonio was the highest scorer in the squad, showing that he is still clearly important to Moyes.

With just one year on his current deal however and the fact he is 33 years old, the striker is closer to the end of his career than the start and this indicates that the club should be targeting a player who could take over from him, with Gyokeres clearly the ideal choice.

Last season, the Sky Blues goal machine netted 22 times and also registered 12 assists across all competitions, scoring eight more times than Antonio, and he has a ruthless nature in front of goal.

Indeed, across 2022/2023, Gyokeres not only registered more goals and assists domestically than Antonio (32 to ten), but he also had more shots on target per 90 (1.19 to 0.84), generated more shot-creating actions per 90 (4.27 to 1.92) and managed more carries into the penalty area (105 to 26), suggesting that he was a lot more clinical in front of goal whilst being able to take the ball into the opposition box on a more regular basis in order to create more chances.

The “unplayable” talent – as once dubbed by teammate Maxime Biamou – has demonstrated his goal-scoring credentials in the second tier and the statistics suggest he outshone Antonio in range of attacking metrics last term.

viktor-gyokeres-everton-premier-league-transfers

Although untested in the Premier League, Moyes had success by luring Jarrod Bowen from Hull City to West Ham in 2020, and he has been repaid handsomely, with the Englishman registering 71 goal contributions in just two and a half seasons and the Swede could follow in the same footsteps.

For a fee of £25m, Gyokeres could exceed all expectations should he join the Irons this summer while becoming the perfect heir to Antonio in the process.

Hartley, Burns help Queensland hold on for draw

A stubborn hand by Chris Hartley and a more fluent one by Joe Burns allowed Queensland to comfortably evade defeat to New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield match at the SCG.The Blues began the final day needing 12 Bulls wickets to secure an outright win, but Hartley and the No. 10 batsman Mark Steketee succeeded in frustrating the hosts while adding 103 and soaking up more than 46 overs.Steketee was eventually out when he was caught by Sean Abbott at leg gully after the ball rebounded off the helmet of the short leg fielder Nick Larkin. Catches off helmets were allowed under CA playing conditions ahead of the 2016-17 season, while the MCC are presently debating the adaptation of that change for all cricket.Hartley finished unbeaten on 86, while the NSW offspinner William Somerville claimed 8 for 136 from no fewer than 58.5 overs. The NSW captain Moises Henriques enforced the follow-on, but Burns, Peter Forrest and Marnus Labuschagne did more than enough to ensure there would be no wobbles by the Bulls and the match was called off early with no chance of a result.Points from the draw move NSW into second spot on the table, narrowly ahead of South Australia.
