David Moyes currently has three striking options on the books at West Ham, in the form of Michail Antonio, Danny Ings and Divin Mubama. The former is only just set to return from injury, whilst Ings and Mubama have been used sparingly off the substitutes' bench, with Jarrod Bowen often occupying a false nine sort of role at the pinnacle of the Hammers' attack.

And, with Mohammed Kudus now at the African Cup of Nations for the foreseeable future, there's even more of a need to bring in an attacker at some point this month.

If the Ultimate Transfer Window Guide by the Daily Mail is anything to go by then a striker is definitely on the radar. Indeed, under the category of 'who they like' are players such as Serhou Girassy of Stuttgart, Dominic Solanke of Bournemouth and Marcos Leonardo of Santos over in Brazil.

Exciting striker target emerges for West Ham

One name purposely missed off above is Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna. The Daily Mail claim that Zirkzee is a player who West Ham United have also taken a liking to. Whilst it doesn't state how much a potential fee would be for the striker, he has established himself as a vital part of the Italian club's season so far, so it's unlikely that they'll accept a small sum, with European aspirations of their own.

Zirkzee came through the academy at Bayern Munich but moved to Bologna last summer, and the 22-year-old has had a bright start to the new campaign, netting eight times and laying on four assists in 20 games in all competitions.

At just 22 years of age, the Dutch striker still has his best years ahead of him, so to see him already racking up goals and assists in a tough league over in Italy is rather promising. However, West Ham fans will feel slightly cautious after Gianluca Scamacca's rather dismal time of things in the Premier League as he just couldn't get up to speed.

If Thiago Motta's praise is anything to go by then Zirkzee could be the perfect addition for David Moyes' side however, as the potent ending to an explosive West Ham United counter-attack.

He said: "It was an excellent goal from a player with extraordinary qualities. He scored a similar goal in training. Joshua is very talented, but I want to emphasize that he also works very hard for it."

The Australian publicly cried out for new arrivals and indirectly told Tottenham chiefs to get them through the door in quick fashion, something which chairman Daniel Levy and the recruitment team have pulled off.

Spurs confirmed the signing of Timo Werner on a six-month loan deal from RB Leipzig last week, which is rumoured to include an option to buy, while defender Radu Dragusin also signed permanently from Genoa to the tune of £25 million.

Alongside these quick-fire moves, the Lilywhites have quickly and efficiently trimmed Postecoglou's squad – with Ashley Phillips, Djed Spence, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga and Sergio Reguilon all leaving the club on loan.

Reports suggest Spurs could make a move for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher on top of this, while widespread transfer sources state that the north Londoners are now in talks with Brugge to sign Nusa on a buy-to-loan-back deal.

So far, Tottenham have been extremely active in the market, and they now look set to be even more so with the possible sale of Ivan Perisic.

Injuries to key players, the ineffectiveness of their overseas fast bowlers, and an inability to win key moments in the Powerplay overs were the reasons behind Kings XI Punjab’s failure to qualify for the IPL playoffs, their captain R Ashwin has said.Speaking to the media after Kings XI’s eight-wicket defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders, Ashwin said injuries – Varun Chakravarthy (finger) and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman (shoulder) missed large parts of the tournament – forced Kings XI to look beyond plans developed ahead of the auction, but maintained that the reasons for not qualifying this season were poor Powerplay performances across the tournament.”Yes, we haven’t been up to the ball-mark this year,” Ashwin said. “We had a few challenges going into this year from last year, we had a few options, we picked up a few people [at the auction] and they’ve got injured. So that’s not ideally how we’d like to look at it. We definitely put our best team we could in the park and we’ve tried our best and there have been a lot of positives that have come out of this season.”One of the areas we’ve definitely lacked is the Powerplay, both with the ball and the bat – in hindsight if we look at it. Because last year we had a great Powerplay batting with Chris [Gayle] and KL [Rahul] but this year we couldn’t get off to great starts obviously because the pressure was on them and they had to do a job. But we have to address this going into the next year because we’ve lost most games on Powerplay battles.”Ashwin also said Kings XI were banking on Andrew Tye, the Purple cap winner from IPL 2018, to come good this season too, but admitted that the Australian wasn’t “very good this season”. Tye took just three wickets in five outings and returned an economy rate of more than 10 per over, but Ashwin expected the fast bowler to learn from the experience.”When you have your overseas seamers and overseas bowlers, you definitely bank on them,” Ashwin said. “It’s like some sort of a banking over. But like I said, Powerplay has been one of our massive problems, most games we’ve won is through the middle overs or sometimes at the death where we’ve had some incredible performances by [Mohammed] Shami or Sam [Curran].”In hindsight, bowlers go through such phases. AJ [Tye] had a fantastic IPL last year but it’s also about batsmen coming after him in different methods. He’s definitely tried hard. It’s not lack of efforts that he’s not been very good this year. But I’m sure he will definitely get better as a cricketer, he’s quite a smart cricketer, he tries to give everything on the field. These sort of phases are quite common in a cricket career but I’m sure he will learn from this.”

علّق البرازيلي رودريجو مهاجم ريال مدريد، على استبعاده من قائمة الثلاثين لاعبًا المرشحين للكرة الذهبية “بالون دور”.

رودريجو أفاد بأنه منزعج من إغفاله من قائمة الكرة الذهبية، واعترف بأنه سخر من ذلك عبر وسائل التواصل الإجتماعي.

وسجل رودريجو 10 أهداف في 34 مباراة بالدوري الإسباني مع ريال مدريد في الموسم الماضي، بالإضافة إلى تسجيله خمسة أهداف في دوري أبطال أوروبا.

وسيتم الإعلان عن الفائز بجائزة الكرة الذهبية في حفل سيقام في باريس يوم 28 أكتوبر المقبل.

وقال رودريجو في مقابلة حصرية مع شبكة “ESPN”: “لقد شعرت بالانزعاج، أعتقد أنني كنت أستحق ذلك (التواجد في قائمة المرشحين للكرة الذهبية)”.

في منشور على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، نشر رودريجو سلسلة من الصور لنفسه وهو يرفع الكؤوس مع ريال مدريد، مصحوبة برمز تعبيري ضاحك، واعترف بأنه كان يهدف إلى السخرية من استبعاده من جائزة الكرة الذهبية.

وأفاد: “لقد نشرت منشورًا ساخرًا إلى حد ما، الآن ليس هناك الكثير لأقوله، الجميع يعرف سخطي، الجميع دعمني، سواء في المنتخب الوطني أو في ريال مدريد، أرسل الناس رسائل”.

Shane Watson has ended his professional career in Australia by announcing his retirement from Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.Watson, who retired from international cricket in 2016, joined the Thunder four years ago after previously been part of Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat, though 40 of his 41 BBL appearances came for the Thunder.He was captain for the last three seasons and finished as the Thunder’s leading BBL run-scorer with 1,014 at 26.68. During the 2018-19 tournament, he struck a 61-ball century against the Heat at the Gabba.Last year, Watson had signed a two-year extension with the Thunder but has decided to call it a day in Australian cricket to spend more time with his family.”I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who has been involved with the Sydney Thunder over the last four seasons,” Watson said. “I will most definitely miss support that the club gets from the Thunder Nation. Their unwavering support through the ups and downs inspires everyone and I will cherish that support deeply.”Finally, to my team-mates, I have played with so many great people and cricketers at the club and I sincerely wish everyone the absolute best for the upcoming seasons.”Cricket Australia chief executive, Kevin Roberts, praised Watson’s longevity in the game. “Shane Watson was one of the most exciting short-form players ever to grace a cricket field,” he said. “Talented, skillful and powerful, Shane was a devastating batsman at his best.”In a career which spanned almost two decades, Shane made a major contribution to Australian cricket firstly at international level and then in domestic cricket as a significant contributor to the Big Bash.”Thunder’s head coach Shane Bond said: “I played against him a little bit and he was an outstanding player, so I was really looking forward to working with him. We’d love to have him around in some capacity and there’s an open invite to have him join us during the season.”Watson, who is currently playing for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, where he struck 96 in his most-recent outing, will continue to take up overseas T20 roles. The Thunder, who missed out on the semi-finals in last season’s competition, will make a decision on their new captain over the next few months ahead of the 2019-2020 tournament.
