Manchester United are now ready to part ways with a member of their first team squad and replace him with two new faces, it has been reported.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's influence at Manchester United has been slower than initially anticipated at Old Trafford since the INEOS chief took charge of proceedings at the beginning of the year.

Erik ten Hag, who many expected to leave the club following his eighth placed finish in the Premier League, is now staying and in talks to sign a new contract with the Red Devils, while the only departures so far this summer have been Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane, both of whom are out of contract this month, and Sofyan Amrabat, whose loan from Fiorentina expires at the end of the month.

Meanwhile, reports continue to suggest that almost everyone is up for sale as they target a refresh, though the club are on the verge of agreeing an extension to Jonny Evans one year deal at Old Trafford in a bizzare turn of events.

No bids have yet come in for players, which has slowed down potential changes to the squad, though a centre-back and a left-back are on the club's wishlist alongside a central midfielder and a backup striker to provide cover and competition for Dane Rasmus Hojlund. Now, their transfer window could finally spark into life with one player potentially on his way out.

United give green light to departure and plan replacements

That comes courtesy of Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, who claims that the Red Devils "would be open" to selling Victor Lindelof this summer amid interest from Fenerbahce. The Swede is down to the final 12 months of his £120,000 a week deal at Old Trafford and was a clear second choice option for Ten Hag on the rare occasion when everyone was fit.

He appeared 19 times in the Premier League last season, and was asked to cover at left-back as well as in central defence when fit, but has never really looked likely to nail down a starting berth following the arrival of Lisandro Martinez.

Now, he is wanted by former Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho, who took charge of the Turkish giants at the beginning of the month. No fee is mentioned in the potential deal, but the defender is valued at £13m by transfermarkt and such a fee would not be an unreasonable expectation.

And the club have a succession plan. Should Lindelof leave, Plettenberg reports United would look to sign two defenders instead of one this summer, having seen an opening bid for Jarrad Branthwaite rejected last week.

They are also keen on Leny Yoro, who is a target for Real Madrid and Liverpool, while Matthijs de Ligt "remains a transfer target" after falling down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena.

It is unlikely that two of those three would arrive at Old Trafford though, with Lindelof's secondary role likely to be filled by a lower-cost option should he ultimately leave for pastures new this summer.

Surrey’s African-Caribbean Engagement (ACE) programme will become an independent charity after receiving a £540,000 grant from Sport England and further funding from the ECB.The project was set up earlier this year by Ebony Rainford-Brent, the former England international who currently works as a board member and director of women’s cricket at Surrey and as a broadcaster for Sky and the BBC, with its stated aim to address a 75% decline in participation among black cricketers since 1995. 70 young players aged 11-18 took part in trials in March, with 25 of those graduating to a coaching programme at The Oval this summer, one of whom has already appeared for Surrey’s Under-18s.The programme’s expansion will see four full-time members of staff employed – including Chevy Green, who has become its director of programmes – and a launch in Birmingham, in partnership with Warwickshire. It aims to build grassroots programmes and talent pathways, provide elite programmes to talented players, and develop a diverse coaching and volunteer scheme, and features several prominent names as honorary patrons and ambassadors, including Michael Holding, Roland Butcher, Sophia Dunkley, Alex Tudor and Mark Butcher.Sport England’s backing is particularly significant, following research they commissioned this year which indicated the severe underrepresentation of young black people in cricket. Chris Grant, one of Sport England’s board members, said in a press conference at The Oval on Thursday that it had been a “no-brainer” to support the programme financially.”It was 25 years ago that a lot of the African-Caribbean community lost it with cricket,” Grant said. “That was the year that there was an article with the title ‘Is it in the blood?’ was published in Wisden [Cricket Monthly magazine] asking how Devon Malcolm could really be English. The programme’s launch comes at the end of Black History Month, and immediately after a cricket season in the UK which saw several prominent figures – including Rainford-Brent – provide testimony about their experiences of racism within the game, following the death of George Floyd in police custody in the United States.In August, academics at Leeds Beckett University including sociologist Dr Thomas Fletcher published figures showing that in the 2019 season, only 30 out of 362 male county cricketers were from BAME backgrounds (excluding overseas players), while only two out of 118 managers or coaches in the men’s county game were black.ALSO READ: What has English cricket been like for black players?Fletcher, whose research previously informed much of the ECB’s South Asian Action Plan, launched in 2018, said that it was vital that the ACE programme had involved a group of ambassadors and honorary patrons who were prominent black figures within the game.”That makes a clear statement that this is a group of people who understand what it is like to be black and who understand the barriers faced by the community collectively,” he told ESPNcricinfo. “Networks are key too, even if it’s not a formal thing.”If most parents say that a child can’t get a trial at 6pm for some reason and want to rearrange, the scout or coach will tell them to piss off. But if Ebony, or Alex Tudor, or Michael Holding rings someone and asks them to find time and tells someone ‘this kid deserves an opportunity’, they’re going to be listened to, and that is absolutely a positive thing.”That is why it’s so important that these pilot tests are part of a wider strategy, which is resourced appropriately. What we don’t want is just a couple of case studies saying ‘this person has been picked up by so and so’ and for it to lose traction. You want it to become a movement.”

– Ele é um cara brincalhão, um cara alegre, deixa todo mundo à vontade. A forma que ele me trata, eu fico muito feliz. Às vezes a gente precisa disso, só um empurrão, de uma conversa, de um apoio. E o que ele fez foi isso. Hoje, eu entro em campo leve, me sinto mais à vontade. Não é que eu não me sentisse, mas a forma na qual ele me trata aqui me deixa muito mais à vontade. Sobre o grupo, não tem o que falar, é fantástico. Mas aí chegou um cara que é fantástico também – disse Michael, que ainda completou.

– Estou feliz aqui, sou muito feliz. Estou mais feliz pelo momento que a gente está vivendo, pelas vitórias porque todo mundo quer ganhar. Então, é agradecer e trabalhar. É jogo importante quarta e domingo, quarta e domingo, então, a gente tem que estar sempre bem, sempre bem preparado – concluiu.

The German Bundesliga giants are on the verge of signing Michael Olise from Crystal Palace and Coman has been deemed expendable, having suffered an injury-disrupted 2023/24 campaign.

The 28-year-old trophy-littered career could see Liverpool add some extra winning mentality, though FSG would have to cough up £50m to make it happen.

Why Liverpool are interested in Kingsley Coman

Bayern signed Coman from Juventus on an initial two-year loan deal in 2015, before exercising the option to make the signing permanent. Former Die Roten sports director Matthias Sammer said of the then-prospect: "Kingsley Coman is one of the biggest talents in European football."

Coman's career has been showered in silverware. Last season, Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen produced an all-time German achievement of winning the Bundesliga undefeated (and the DFB-Pokal too) meaning that Bayern and Coman missed out on the league title.

For Coman, it was the first time in his career that he failed to win his division's title, triumphing every single year with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, from where he began his professional journey. That's 11 league titles, even more than Phil Foden, for example, who has claimed six Premier League titles aged 24 with Manchester City.

In total, he has scored 63 goals and supplied 66 assists across 294 appearances for the Allianz Arena side, making good on past praise from his former coach Patrick Gonfalone, who noted when he was a teenager: “His reading of the game and his technique stand out and make him formidable."

While the recently concluded campaign has seen him shackled to the sideline over the past few months, limiting him to a seasonal haul of five goals and three assists, Coman managed to average 1.7 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game in the German top flight.

For reference, Liverpool's Luis Diaz averaged 1.8 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per Premier League game last term, so the Bavarian ace maintained an impressive level despite his issues.

Having scored the sole goal to secure Bayern the Champions League title in 2020, sinking his former outfit PSG to lift the trophy, Coman has the pedigree and he has the skill.

As you can see, the £276k-per-week machine finds success regardless of his deployment on the field. The right-footed star is understandably more clinical when on the left, swinging inside to fire on goal, but he's comparatively successful in that regard even when on the right flank.

Moreover, his progression-based and sharp technical qualities could see him offer the added dimension to ensure the success of Slot's Liverpool side. As per FBref, the France international ranks among the top 15% of attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for pass completion, the top 19% for progressive passes, the top 6% for progressive carries, the top 17% for successful take-ons and the top 9% for touches in the attacking penalty area per 90.

Such quality. Such gusto. Nunez would lick his lips at the chance to play with such a talent.

Nunez might have flattered to deceive here, struggled to make it connect there, but he's still showcased more than enough quality to denote his elite-level talent on Merseyside.

Some extra pace and projection down the flanks could be perfect for his skill set, and Coman offers that in hordes. His two-sidedness suggests that Coman could find a measure of fluency on either wing, with Nunez scoring 18 goals for the Reds last term but also registering 13 assists.

The 6 foot 1 forward, indeed, ranks among the top 5% of centre-forwards across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for assists, the top 13% for shot-creating actions and the top 20% for tackles per 90.

Slot's preferred formation shapes up to be 4-2-3-1 – the same, as it goes, as Bielsa's set-up with Uruguay – with Nunez playing the role of lone frontman. Things could soon start to click for a forward who has had his share of detractors since alighting in England, perhaps playing more of a distinctive role than the fluid, interchanging nature of Klopp's system.

With Coman deployed to the wing, stretching the opponent's flanks and creating space, a formidable partnership could be born.

– É um dia especial. Faz muito tempo que eu não encontrava a torcida do Flamengo a favor, porque contra era, praticamente, um bom tempo. Fico mais feliz ainda pela entrega da equipe por mais uma vitória, fazendo com que a gente passa para a semifinal de mais uma competição. Então, já dei os parabéns para o meu grupo. Fiquei muito satisfeito de voltar ao Maracanã, reencontrar a torcida do Flamengo com meu grupo e conseguir mais uma vitória.

Dentro de campo, o jogo foi “pegado”, com muitas faltas e reclamações dos dois lados. O Flamengo terminou a partida com 13 infrações, enquanto o Grêmio, 18. Renato foi questionado se a arbitragem foi um empecilho para um confronto “mais vistoso”. No entanto, o treinador não fez críticas e destacou que está concentrado na sua equipe.

– Acho que a arbitragem esteve normal, é um jogo pegado. O Grêmio vende caro sempre as derrotas. É o estilo do futebol gaúcho, tanto do Grêmio quanto do Internacional. É lógico que a gente tem jogadas mais ríspidas, mas é uma coisa normal. Acredito que ele deu os cartões para quem mereceu tomar os cartões, o pênalti foi legítimo, ninguém pode reclamar de nada, até porque foi uma belíssima jogada do Pedro. Vocês me conhecem, independente de como um árbitro apita uma partida, eu não gosto de opinar. Eu procuro me concentrar mais na minha equipe do que na arbitragem.

TORCIDA NO ESTÁDIO
– Eu sou a favor, totalmente, dos torcedores voltarem aos estádios. Você tem o jogador de futebol que gosta da torcida no estádio, você tem o cantor, você tem o ator de teatro, e ele quer o público. Acho que, seguindo os protocolos, qual é o problema? Vejo que, no futebol, muita gente quer aparecer em cima do futebol. “Ah, não pode entrar torcedor no estádio”. Eu vejo tantas aglomerações por aí, não sou eu que vou ficar aqui dando exemplo porque todo mundo vê. E não vejo ninguém tomando providências. Não vejo ninguém se importando tanto quanto no futebol. Por que só no futebol? Por que tem uma câmera, e as pessoas estão aparecendo?

– Se tiver que acabar com o público no futebol, que acabe em todos os locais. Eu vejo shows de artistas, que eu não sou contra, bem pelo contrário. Eu vejo outros tipos de shows e não vejo ninguém comentar das aglomerações. Não vejo ninguém chegar lá e proibir, uma vez ou outra. Então, é o tal do futebol, o futebol faz com que todo mundo apareça na televisão, entendeu? Então, se querem coibir o público no futebol, que partam para os outros locais também, não somente no futebol. Essa é a minha opinião.

RETORNO DE ATLETAS LESIONADOS
– É difícil de falar porque a gente tem reavaliado esses jogadores diariamente, eles têm treinado, mas eu converso bastante com eles, departamento médico também. Eu vou muito pelo que o jogador me passa. Eles têm se recuperado bem, mas são lesões perigosas. Então, é difícil de falar hoje quando que eles vão voltar. Somente no dia a dia com os treinamentos, com o que eles passam para gente, que vamos definido em qual jogo eles podem voltar.

COMO ESTÁ DAVID LUIZ?
​- O David Luiz é um grande profissional, já conversei algumas vezes com ele para saber das condições dele. É um jogado que está parado desde maio, ele vem de um procedimento. É um jogador que estava treinando, é um jogador que, quando chegou no Flamengo, na segunda-feira, fez os exames, e os exames dele foram bons. Mas vale também para os jogadores que estão entregues ao departamento médico, vou conversando com eles, trocando ideia e, no momento em que ele estiver 100%, se sentindo bem, é lógico que a gente vai utilizar o David Luiz. Mas, por enquanto, é importante ele recuperar bem a forma física dele, recuperar a musculatura dele.

POLARIZAÇÃO DE FLAMENGO E ATLÉTICO-MG NO FUTEBOL NACIONAL?
– De maneira alguma. Tanto Flamengo quanto Atlético estão bem, assim como o Palmeiras está também. Não tem uma equipe que vai ganhar todos os jogos. Não tem uma equipe imbatível. O Atlético vem ganhando, o Flamengo vem ganhando, o próprio Palmeiras vinha ganhando, mas é uma coisa normal. O Campeonato Brasileiro é muito difícil e muito longo. Qualquer vacilo, de repente, você perde umas quatro posições. Então, é muito cedo até porque foi jogado uma rodada do segundo turno, tem muitos jogos pela frente.

ELENCO ENCORPADO
– Acima de tudo, os jogadores estão de parabéns, porque é aquilo que eu falo, eu não tenho um time, tenho um grupo. Por isso que peço diariamente para eles treinarem forte. Todo jogador que treina forte, vai jogar forte. A camisa chega, nós temos três competições, tem espaço para todo mundo. O jogador de futebol não vai se preparar em dois, três dias. Ele tem que estar preparado para no momento em que for chamado, ele dar conta do recado. É o que tem acontecido. Por isso que, independente de quem entra em campo, o Flamengo tem jogado, tem jogado bem, tem respeitado seus adversários, tem conquistado as vitórias, tem conquistado classificações.

SONHO DE SER CAMPEÃO
– A gente trabalha para isso. Esse é o trabalho, tenho falado isso quase que diariamente para o meu grupo. A gente vem ganhando, a gente vem conquistando vitórias, a gente está buscando os primeiros colocados no Campeonato Brasileiro, a gente está numa semifinal de Copa do Brasil e está numa semifinal de Libertadores. Tudo isso está muito bonito, está todo mundo gostando, mas se não ganhar, não adianta nada. A gente trabalha para ganhar. A gente sabe que temos trabalhando para chegar numa final e levantar a taça, essa é nossa obrigação, esse é o nosso trabalho.
