Clyne leads impressive Premier League statistic

Liverpool are enjoying a fine campaign in the Premier League this season but they’re still some way off Chelsea, sat five points off a Blues side who have seemed largely unstoppable this season. There is no denying that the Reds have come a long way under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp since the German took charge at Anfield, with Liverpool looking strong in their charge to return to the Premier League.[ad_pod id=’now-tv’ align=’centre’]Solid from front to back, Liverpool have a wealth of talented players at their disposal and Nathaniel Clyne has proven to be a vital asset in both defence and the attack, as this statistic shows.

Liverpool could do with turning those chances into goals though as Clyne has just two assists to his name from those thirty opportunities, with his last assist for the Reds coming in mid-December against Middlesbrough.

The statistics show Clyne could find the route to a breakthrough in this weekend’s crucial clash with Manchester United though, which is a good omen.

Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic feels ‘like an animal’

Manchester United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted that he does not need extra rest because he is an “animal”.

Most players at the age of 35, particularly ones that play in an attacking role, tend to be managed differently than their younger teammates.

Ibrahimovic has been ever-present in the United team since his summer arrival on a free transfer, scoring 13 Premier League goals so far, making him the second highest scorer in the division.

The former Sweden international has helped the Red Devils win the last seven matches, and it was during a crucial period when fixtures were coming thick and fast.

[ad_pod id=’now-tv’ align=’centre’]

It remains to be seen whether Ibrahimovic will be rested for today’s FA Cup clash against Reading, but the man himself feels in good shape. He told United’s official website:

“The boss has made a good programme for me since the start. He has been adapting my physical point of view and the way I can play every game. He has to get the credit for that. The mixture between training, recovery and the game, I do it differently, and he set it up for me.

“So that’s why I can hold out for so long. And, when you have a body like me, it’s not a normal body. It’s like when you see an animal. It goes in and is fresh always so I see myself as an animal.”

With regards to United’s Premier League form, they currently sit sixth in the standings after winning their last six matches on the trot.

They remain 10 points adrift of leaders Chelsea, but they can move to within one points of second place if they defeat arch rivals Liverpool next Sunday.

Exclusive: 55% think Allardyce has lost his Midas touch

It’s safe to say, Sam Allardyce’s short Crystal Palace tenure hasn’t gone as expected.

The one-time England boss is one of the undisputed masters of steering clubs clear of relegation, most notably doing so with Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers, West Ham and Sunderland, but now finds his decent-quality Palace side second bottom after losing 4-0 to the Black Cats on Saturday.

[ad_pod id=’now-tv’ align=’centre’]

Of course, there are many factors at play at Selhurst Park, but winning just two games from ten – one being against former club Bolton, now of League One, in the FA Cup – certainly doesn’t reflect well on Big Sam.

And FootballFanCast just couldn’t ignore Allardyce’s antics in 2016, when the dream of being England manager was abruptly taken away from him by some dodgy conversations in part of The Telegraph’s investigation into corruption in football.

Coupling that with Palace’s poor results, we asked Eagles fans earlier this week whether Allardyce had lost his Midas touch. Well, the results are now in and a slight majority, 55%, worryingly think he has.

Is this the end of Allardyce? And what does that mean for Palace’s survival hopes? We’ll have to wait and see.

Big ask for Nestorovski to fill Lukaku’s boots at Everton

Everton are eyeing Palermo striker Ilija Nestorovski as a potential replacement for striker Romelu Lukaku, according to 90min.

What’s the word?

Lukaku’s future is expected to be a talking point when the transfer window reopens in the summer, particularly if Everton fail to clinch a spot in Europe this season.

Ronald Koeman’s side currently sit eight points adrift of the top five, and Lukaku has previously claimed that he has ambitions of playing Champions League football.

The Belgian international was linked with moves to Germany and Chelsea last summer, but stayed put at Goodison Park and has gone on to score 17 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions.

90min reports that Everton sent scouts to watch Nestorovski play for Palermo in their 4-1 defeat to Juventus last week, and it is believed that Koeman is considering the forward as a potential signing if Lukaku leaves.

With Palermo sitting in the relegation zone in Serie A, it has been reported that Nestorovski is likely to leave unless the club avoid the drop.

[ad_pod id=’now-tv’ align=’centre’]

Is he the right man to replace Lukaku?

Well, this season Nestorovski has not hit the goalscoring heights that Lukaku has.

In 25 appearances, three of which as a substitute, he has found the back of the net nine times in Serie A.

He would have big boots to fill and high expectations if he were to move to Goodison Park given the importance of Lukaku at the club.

The Macedonian has never before played in England, so it could take him time to get used to the Premier League.

There is an argument that Everton should aim for a high-calibre player if Lukaku does leave because it would boost their stature and is likely to attract other stars to the club.

The Toffees tend to be on the cusp of challenging the top clubs, but they fall short, so bringing in a big talent would be crucial if they lose their best player.

Sissoko insists his future is at Spurs despite woeful season

Moussa Sissoko has struggled to make a positive impression at Tottenham Hotspur since his £30m arrival from Newcastle United last summer but the Frenchman has insisted his future remains at White Hart Lane.

Sissoko has fallen out of favour with manager Mauricio Pochettino, making just ten starts, and his situation has reportedly attracted attention from elsewhere. However, the Euro 2016 star is adamant he will remain in North London.

Speaking to BeIN Sports, and quoted by The Evening Standard, Sissoko said:

“My future is at Tottenham and I’m trying to give my best. I’m trying to learn because I have to get used to a new style of playing in a new team.”

The 27-year-old has struggled to adapt to the training and tactical changes that have accompanied his switch to Spurs and he’s still yet to net his first goal for the club, with his contributions coming in the form of two Premier League assists.

Whilst Sissoko remains intent to succeed at White Hart Lane, Spurs themselves may have other ideas and could take the decision out of the Frenchman’s hands- though they’d have to accept a major financial loss.

Concern for Liverpool as Barcelona maintain Coutinho interest

Barcelona have put Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho on a transfer wishlist for the summer despite the Brazilian recently signing a new contract at Anfield, according to Don Balon.

What’s the word?

Plenty of Liverpool fans would have breathed a sigh of relief when Coutinho penned a new long-term deal in January.

The ‘little magician’ had been linked with a move to the Spanish giants, but news of his commitment to the Reds calmed speculation – not for long though!

Spanish media outlet Don Balon claims that the Catalan giants have added Coutinho to a list of potential candidates to replace Andres Iniesta.

[ad_pod id=’now-tv’ align=’centre’]

The Spain international is yet to agree a new deal at the Camp Nou, and with his current contract due to expire next summer, rumours are rumbling that he could soon be out of the door.

Is a Coutinho capture likely?

Everyone knows that new contracts do not always mean that a player is committed to the club, but it is handy when it comes to negotiations.

In this instance, if Coutinho decides to leave Liverpool at the end of the season the Merseyside outfit will be able to demand a significant sum, particularly as there is said to be no release clause in his new deal.

The 24-year-old, who has scored six goals in 23 appearances in all competitions this season, has publicly insisted that he is happy playing at Liverpool under manager Jurgen Klopp.

However, the lure of playing for one of the two top Spanish clubs would be difficult to turn down.

Also, Don Balon report that Barca will try to use Coutinho’s friendship with fellow Brazilian Neymar to help convince him to make the move.

Swansea City star could be welcome addition to West Ham United

West Ham United are favourites to land the signature of Swansea City star Gylfi Sigurdsson, according to the latest odds from Sky Bet.

What’s the word?

The Icelandic midfielder was linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium in the January transfer window, but he opted to stay put for the remainder of the season at least.

The Hammers have been touted as possible admirers of Sigurdsson before and with the summer transfer window on the horizon, speculation has returned.

Bookies Sky Bet have the East London club 5/1 favourites to sign the midfielder, while Everton, who were linked with the former Tottenham Hotspur star in January, are at 8/1.

Manager Paul Clement made it clear when he was appointed at the beginning of January that Sigurdsson was not for sale, but the topic could be revisited at the end of the season.

What would Sigurdsson bring to West Ham?

Judging by his form this season, he would provide creativity and goals to Slaven Bilic’s side.

Swansea are sitting just five points above the relegation zone in the Premier League, but that is not a reflection on Sigurdsson’s individual form.

The midfielder has scored eight goals and produced 10 assists in 27 Premier League appearances, and he has often single-handedly turned games around for the Welsh outfit.

Sigurdsson spent two years playing at Tottenham, but he struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in a team of emerging stars.

The midfielder is best suited to a setup where he can be one of the main men, and the Hammers could potentially offer him that.

Henrik Larsson backs Celtic to go season unbeaten

Speaking exclusively to in-house club channel Celtic TV, Henrik Larsson has backed his former side to do the unthinkable this season and not be beaten.

What’s the story?

Larsson enjoyed a wonderful seven years at Celtic Park, making himself a legend along the way. Scoring an incredible 242 goals in 315 appearances, winning 8 major honours, a Golden Boot and guiding the Hoops to a European final, it’s fair to say he knows a thing or two about extraordinary feats at Celtic.

Now he’s backed Brendan Rodgers to make their own history this season.

Speaking to Celtic TV, Larsson said:

I have watched the two Old Firm games this season. Celtic have a good side, the manager has done a great job there and at this moment Celtic are too good for everybody else. They haven’t lost yet this season and I don’t think they will now.

With a maximum of just 11 games left this season, you can see why the man fans dubbed ‘The King of Kings’ thinks that his much beloved team can now see this incredible run through to its conclusion.

Larsson was giving an interview to promote a special charity match at Celtic Park this May, when a Larsson select will face off against a Lubo Moravcik select in aid of the Celtic FC Foundation.

Every Celtic fan still holds a special place in their heart for the Swedish legend and they’ll no doubt appreciate his backing of the current side as they aim to win a domestic treble of trophies for the first time since the striker was in his pomp at the club.

Chelsea fans back Kante to replicate Drogba-like goalscoring feat

With a fifth Premier League title within touching distance at Stamford Bridge, the final few games of Antonio Conte’s first season in charge of Chelsea could see their imperious march towards the crown completed with relative ease.

Aside from their slip-up against Crystal Palace recently, the Blues look formidable in their attempts to reclaim the trophy they surrendered so meekly last season, though their upcoming match with Manchester United is by no means an easy task.

Granted, Conte has managed to beat the Red Devils twice already this season, though former Blues boss Jose Mourinho is a master of big games and the rivalry between the two adds an extra layer of spice to what is already one of the biggest games in the English footballing calendar.

Ahead of their trip to Old Trafford, Chelsea fans on Twitter have been lavishing yet more praise on N’Golo Kante. Much has been said and written about the fantastic Frenchman ever since his arrival in England at Leicester City last year and, while goals aren’t really a part of his game, he has scored twice against United this season already.

With that in mind, a portion of the club’s fans on Twitter are backing Kante to keep up his scoring record against Manchester United, with Didier Drogba’s fearsome record against rivals Arsenal in mind.

Here’s a closer look at how fans are gearing up to Sunday’s clash.
