Leeds United are currently in the thick of the Championship title race. Premier League football is a very real possibility for the Whites this season, they just have to hang onto their automatic promotion spot for the remainder of this campaign.

No one can say that Marcelo Bielsa’s side don’t deserve to be in contention. The Argentine coach has worked wonders so far at Elland Road, turning what was previously a mid-table side into a hard-working, cohesive unit capable of producing some truly scintillating football.

If Leeds do go up, they’ll bring plenty of excitement and intrigue to the top flight, but former goalkeeper Paul Robinson is concerned that the top tier could represent a step too far for this team.

What he said

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Football Centre (11/03, 12:40pm), as quoted by HITC, the former Leeds and England shot-stopper said: “I fear for them if they went up to the Premier League with the team they have got, how they play, but they keep finding ways.”

Ready to step up

Leeds certainly do have a small squad, and one devoid of much Premier League experience. However, the 39-year-old is right to recognise that the club do indeed “keep finding ways” to win.

They’ve had a number of setbacks this year, including heavy defeats to Norwich City and Nottingham Forest. However, on each occasion, Bielsa has found a way to inspire his side back to their best.

From what we’ve seen of Leeds’ character, work ethic and mentality this season, there’s no reason to doubt that they would be able to find a way to thrive in the Premier League next season too should they achieve promotion this time around.

وأضاف: “أشعر أنني مستعد لتحد مختلف تمامًا، وأنا واثق من أن هذا سيكون انتقالًا مريحًا للغاية بالنسبة لي”.

The Hammers were stunned by Huddersfield on Saturday, as the Terriers took a 3-1 lead despite Mark Noble scoring an early penalty.

Juninho Bacuna levelled for the visitors at the London Stadium before Karlan Grant struck twice to give them that comfortable lead, or so they thought.

The Irons stormed back into the match after some smart substitutions by Pellegrini, and the boss must now recognise that Marko Arnautovic simply doesn’t want to be out there anymore. The difference after the Austrian left the pitch was night and day.

Time to move on

Arnautovic came about as close to leaving the club as he possibly could have come in January, as his brother and agent pleaded with the Irons to allow him clear passage to the riches of Chinese football.

The 29 year-old has not scored since an FA Cup strike at the beginning of January, and he appeared to be booed off the pitch by some sections of the London Stadium on Saturday, and deservedly so.

His replacement, Lucas Perez, is hardly the most talented player on the pitch but he at least showed full commitment to the cause once he entered the fray.

Pellegrini is trying to build a culture of intense, fluid, attacking football, and having a player in the side who would rather sulk than take part is simply not going to cut it – “Arnie” touched the ball just 39 times before being substituted.

With a squad growing in confidence but not much left to play for this season, the boss will surely be plotting out his plans for the next campaign, and it bears no benefit to keep playing a player who is looking more and more likely to try and force an exit again this summer.

It’s time to move on and start looking towards the future.

Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to bemoan the club’s current wage structure, which has been seriously damaged by Alexis Sanchez’s reported earnings.

The Telegraph’s James Ducker has revealed that there has been a domino effect at Old Trafford following the Chilean’s arrival on a reported £350,000-a-week contract – rising to £500,000 dependant on bonuses – with many other United stars now demanding vastly inflated salaries as a result.

What makes matters worse is Sanchez’s lack of impact, or even basic involvement most of the time, in the first team. The 30-year-old has scored just five goals in 41 appearances since arriving on a free transfer from Arsenal back in January 2018, doing almost nothing to warrant his astronomical earnings.

To further reinforce the negativity surrounding this situation, it is believed that arch-rivals Manchester City foresaw this situation and consequently backed out of a deal to sign Sanchez – a true disaster all round for the Red Devils.

Idrissa Gueye reportedly asked to leave Everton for Paris Saint-Germain in the latter stages of the January transfer window.

PSG could not agree a deal with the Toffees, though, and the midfielder ultimately remained at Goodison Park.

Gueye has not sulked, however, and has continued to put in strong performances for the Merseyside outfit in the middle of the park.

Kurt Zouma – on loan at Everton from Chelsea – has recently paid tribute to the 29-year-old for his brilliant form.

And that led to a host of the club’s supporters commenting on Gueye – a 2016 arrival from Aston Villa.

It remains to be seen whether PSG make another move for the midfielder in this summer’s transfer window and Gueye will be fearing that the ship has sailed.

كشفت تقارير صحفية إسبانية أن نجم فريق برشلونة ليونيل ميسي رفض طلب المدرب رونالد كومان، قبل مواجهة خيتافي يوم السبت الماضي في بطولة الدوري الإسباني.

وتلاقى الفريقان في الجولة السادسة من الليجا، حيث خسر النادي الكتالوني بهدف دون رد.

وحسب برنامج “sinconcesiones” الإذاعي الإسباني، فإن كومان رغب في عدم إشراك ليونيل ميسي في التشكيل الأساسي لـ برشلونة أمام خيتافي.

وأفاد أن ميسي رفض طلب كومان، حيث رغب في اللعب لأنه شعر بتحسن بدني، وأنه في حالة جيدة تسمح له بالمشاركة.

وشارك ليونيل ميسي بالفعل في المباراة كأساسي، وخاض اللقاء بأكمله.
