Leeds United fans on Twitter have been slating Victor Orta after a full list of the signings he has made was published by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The Director of Football has been a polarising figure at Elland Road since his arrival, but many fans were united in saying that his transfer record hasn’t been good enough.

It’s hard to defend the Spaniard. His track record of signings has been poor as this list includes the likes of Felix Wiedwald, Caleb Ekuban, Izzy Brown and Vurnon Anita.

Although Orta has uncovered some gems such as Pontus Jansson and Mateusz Klich, overall his eye for talent just hasn’t proven to be up to scratch.

The Yorkshire club’s performances on the pitch this season have protected the man in charge of transfers from a lot of criticism, but now that the Whites have been resigned to another season in the Championship, and supporters have turned on Andrea Radrizzani’s right-hand man.

وعن العودة لملعب سان سيرو حيث فاز زيدان بأول دوري أبطال له، أردف: “هناك 4 سنوات من الخبرة، لم أغير أي شيء بخصوص من أنا، أريد أن أستمر في الاستمتاع بالتدريب وهذا هو أهم شيء بالنسبة لي”.

وأكمل: “هذه هي كرة القدم، هناك لحظات تكون فيها قويًا جدًا ومن وقت لآخر هناك لحظات أكثر تعقيدًا، هذا ما نمر به، لكن ليس نحن فقط، وليس مدريد فقط، كل الفرق تمر بلحظات صعبة هذا الموسم وهو أمر خاص بعض الشيء”.

وعن تفسيره لحالات الصعود والهبوط للفريق خلال المباريات، أوضح: “أمام إنتر أعتقد أنه لم يحدث شيء من هذا القبيل، كانت هناك صعوبات في المباراة وهو أمر طبيعي لأنك تلعب ضد فريق جيد للغاية، بدأ الفريق المباراة وأنهاها بشكل جيد، حدث شيء مشابه لنا ضد فياريال أنا فقط أقول إن هذه هي كرة القدم نحن نعمل على تحسين دفاعنا ومحاولة تسجيل الأهداف”.

وعما إذا كان يعتقد أنه مع تقويم آخر سيكون لـ ريال مدريد نتائج أخرى، أستطرد: “لا أعرف، لأنه في النهاية عليك أن تتعايش مع الأمر لكني أصر على ما قلته سابقًا، هناك العديد من المباريات، عندما نتحدث يأتي وقت يمكنك فيه التفكير في أن هناك العديد من المباريات، والعديد من الإصابات والأداء ليس هو نفسه، كل من يرى الأمر بطريقته الخاصة”.

Celtic fans may be celebrating a famous ‘treble treble’ of trophies but it wasn’t all plain sailing at Hampden with Craig Levein’s Hearts giving them a hell of a game in the Scottish Cup final.

The Edinburgh side arguably had the better of the first half and heading into the interval there were serious questions being asked of Neil Lennon’s outfit.

Ultimately the class and quality of players like Odsonne Edouard shone through to clinch a superb 2-1 victory, but there were definite question marks about some of the performances in the Hoops team.

One of the most criticised was Tom Rogic, whose low-energy performance infuriated fans watching on before he was hauled off in the 70th minute for Olivier Ntcham.

The Australian hasn’t been himself in recent months and it’s fair to say the patience of fans is starting to wear thin regarding his poor recent displays.

He’ll need to improve massively over the summer or risks dropping out of regular Celtic starting elevens.

Tottenham Hotspur have been urged to leave Harry Kane on the bench in the Champions League final by BT Sports pundit Chris Sutton, per the Daily Mail.

What’s he said?

Kane, per The Guardian, has declared himself fit for this weekend’s clash between Spurs and Liverpool in Madrid.

He injured his ankle ligaments in the club’s quarter-final first leg win over Manchester City and has been absent since, missing nearly two months of football.

In his absence, Spurs beat City on away goals at the Etihad Stadium and also produced a miraculous comeback in the Netherlands to beat Ajax and reach the final; Lucas Moura scored a hat-trick in Amsterdam.

Sutton, thus, believes that the England captain should be left on the bench for this weekend’s game and maintains that the decision is simply “common sense”.

Writing in the Mail, he said: “Harry Kane should not start the Champions League final. It is simply too much of a risk for Tottenham in such a monumental match and manager Mauricio Pochettino must make a sensible decision rather than a sentimental one.

“Common sense must prevail. No matter what Kane says, there have to be doubts over his fitness.

“The striker’s last appearance for Spurs was against Manchester City on April 9 and on Monday he revealed he returned to first-team training at the end of last week.”

He added: “I can understand why Kane is putting himself forward and telling his manager he wants to play. What club captain wouldn’t?

“But Pochettino has to ask himself: would Kane’s inclusion in the starting line-up be in the best interest of the team?

“I don’t think it would. Who would Pochettino drop to make room for Kane too? Lucas Moura, whose hat-trick against Ajax in the semi-final second leg got them to this showdown with Liverpool?

“Son Heung-min, the versatile forward who has arguably been Spurs’ best player this season?

“Neither of those should be making way.”

Overthinking it

Kane is one of the best strikers in the world, if not the best. Tottenham can’t afford to overthink his selection.

At a base level, one can understand where Sutton is coming from; Kane is not necessarily match-fit and one has to doubt that he is completely sharp.

But you play your best players in the biggest games, regardless of whether or not Lucas scored a hat-trick against Ajax.

Kane has an otherworldly scoring record – he has netted a total of 164 goals in 252 games for the club.

If Mauricio Pochettino leaves him on the bench, he will be benching perhaps the finest striker Spurs have ever had.

It’s the Champions League final; if Kane is anything close to fit, he has to play.

تحدث محمد الشناوي حارس مرمى منتخب مصر والأهلي، عن بداية مشواره الدولي مع الفراعنة ومشاركته الأولى أمام البرتغال.

وتمكن محمد الشناوي من تحقيق لقب دوري أبطال إفريقيا مع الأهلي على حساب غريمه التقليدي الزمالك بنتيجة 2-1.

وتابع: “كنت أعلم أن هذه المباراة هي من ستحدد مصيري مع المنتخب، والحمد لله قدمت شكل جيد وكدنا نفوز لولا تقنية الفار”.

London News Online’s South London Press have published an exclusive that claims three Sky Bet League One teams are queueing up for the signature of Charlton Athletic’s Tariqe Fosu.

What’s the word, then?

The report states that Karl Robinson’s Oxford United, newbies Lincoln City and Rotherham United are all targeting the 23-year-old whose contract at the Valley is due to run out at the start of July.

Tariqe is one of many players set to exit the Addicks in the summer as they shuffle their pack ahead of their first season back in the Sky Bet Championship under Lee Bowyer.

The Cockney attacking midfielder joined from Reading during the Robinson reign and despite making 27 appearances in the league during 2018/2019, failed to feature in Charlton’s promotion run not playing a game after the end of March. Fosu is a former youth international with England.

The final couple of months of a historic campaign for the Addicks proved that the Englishman is quite simply surplus to requirements, not required to play a role in the most vital part of the term.

There’s the argument that stepping up a level means the Valley club need a bigger squad and could do with Fosu as a back-up option.

However, the CAM also comfortable out on the left wing was barely able to contribute two goals and four assists in the best part of 30 appearances in League One last season.

Only being able to produce these weak figures in the third tier suggest that Fosu would be unable to have any kind of impact in the second tier, as was proven during his time at Reading.

The Addicks are best off forgetting about Fosu and not carrying any passengers with them in the next step up of their journey back to the big time. He’s been a good servant at stages but his time is now up.

For the man who once claimed he was one of the best defenders in the world, Dejan Lovren isn’t all that regular at Liverpool. 

The Croatia international, who shared that moment self-proclamation with the universe during last summer’s Russia World Cup, has since managed just 18 appearances for the Reds this term. Barely all that commanding, right?

So, why would Jurgen Klopp be so negligent and not play ‘one of the best defenders in the world’?

Quite simply, he has three options to choose from in Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk. Where exactly does Lovren fit into that mix of youth, chemistry (Joel Matip and Van Dijk developed into something special last season conceding an average 0.75 goals per game) and raw talent?

According to the Times, Liverpool want £25 million for Lovren and Milan are apparently (also reported by Sky) interested.

It’s times like these that a sporting director might come in handy; to squeeze every last penny from what is currently looking like somewhat of a spare part in the Liverpool machine, and if Michael Edwards (talked up of late by the Liverpool Echo) manages to reel in the multi-million pound fee for Lovren, then he deserves even more praise.

Look at the sorts of fees commanded for Dominic Solanke (£17m) and Danny Ings (£20m) of late, after all. Also, when you consider the fact that the former Southampton man is only believed to have cost £20m back in 2014, making a profit on Lovren after half a decade of service would be excellent business.
