The Telegraph is reporting that Manchester City have signed West Brom’s Morgan Rogers. The deal is reported to be worth £4m, although the youngster will have to wait 17 days before he can put pen-to-paper on a professional contract, which will be on his 17th birthday.

Rodriguez rejoins Burnley

Burnley have confirmed the signature of Jay Rodriguez from West Brom. The 29-year-old will return to his boyhood club after scoring 22 goals in the Championship for the Midlands outfit last season. The former Southampton striker has agreed a two-year deal with the Clarets, with the option of a further season.

Baggies attempting to hijack Adomah move

According to The Bristol Post, West Brom are attempting to hijack Nottingham Forest’s move for Albert Adomah. The 31-year-old Ghanaian international is reportedly having a medical with the two-time European Cup winners, but Slaven Bilic and co are still keen on taking him to the Hawthorns.

According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, an intermediary acting on behalf of Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren met with Serie A giants Milan to discuss a potential move this summer.

What’s the word?

Amid speculation that the Croatia international could be set to depart Anfield this summer, reports in recent weeks had suggested that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was quite insistent on keeping the 30-year-old at the club.

However, according to Calcio Mercato, Lovren remains at the top of Milan’s shopping list and that the reported meeting between the agent and the club lasted over an hour; which according to the publication, is a potential sign that “good progress” had been made.

Much-needed squad depth

First and foremost, why would you want to sell “one of the best defenders in the world”? Perhaps Lovren isn’t quite as good as he thinks himself to be, but there is undeniably a Premier League level centre-back in there. The 30-year-old may have slipped down the pecking order last season, but he still has plenty of top-flight experience that Klopp will no doubt have to call upon over the course of a campaign.

Indeed, in his limited 13 Premier League appearances last season, Lovren averaged 1.2 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 3.9 clearances per game. Compare that to fan favourite and highly-rated Joe Gomez’s numbers of 1.1 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 2.4 clearances per game. Statistically the numbers appear to back up the Croatian maintaining his stay at Anfield next season, and he offers such a reliable option for Klopp.

Gomez’s injury history is also a cause for concern and is perhaps another huge reason as to why the Reds have so far been reluctant to engage in active talks over Lovren’s exit. As the Reds look to have another crack at the league title next season, the Merseyside club will have to make use of all their resources, and the Croatian is certainly one that they can’t afford to lose at this stage.

وأوضحت الشبكة أنّ بينافينتي بات قريبًا للغاية من الرحيل عن أنتويرب، مُشيرة إلى أنّ من المرجح أنّ يكمل انتقاله لـ تشارليروا قبل ساعات من نهاية الميركاتو.

Tottenham Hotspur have rejected the chance to sign Paulo Dybala from Juventus, per Calciomercato.

What’s the word?

Spurs have already signed Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon this summer and have also acquired Jack Clarke from Leeds United.

Reports suggest that they could also sign Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis along with Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon.

But Calciomercato suggests that they have snubbed the opportunity to bid for Dybala.

Manchester United, Bayern Munich and PSG are said to be interested in the attacking midfielder, who has made 182 appearances for Juve, though Manchester City have mimicked Spurs’ stance by opting against submitting an offer.

Just a dream

Spurs are missing a major opportunity here.

Now, of course, we do not know how much Dybala would cost in this current inflated transfer market but how often is he going to be offered to you on a silver platter?

He is an established Argentina international, a superstar in Serie A, a proven goalscorer – he has scored 78 goals for the club – and he would instantly improve Tottenham.

The club have not signed a truly bonafide superstar since Rafael van der Vaart joined the club from Real Madrid.

Since then, they have decided to make their own, bringing in youngsters who they can mould and improve themselves.

But if Dybala is available, they should have gone for him; it would have been another statement of intent following the signing of Ndombele, a world-class player arriving at Hotspur Way as the club look to finally end that trophy drought that stretches back to 2008.

Instead, it seems they will have to watch on as he decides his future, and that’s a crying shame.

Arsenal’s latest pre-season challenge saw them host Olympique Lyon at the Emirates this weekend.

And despite taking the early lead through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s strike, their French counterparts ended up turning the game on its head and snatching victory thanks to two goals from Moussa Dembele.

But it was not really the result that mattered the most. Sure, it would’ve been great winning at home but the main thing is to get match ready and as sharp as possible for that new Premier League season, which is now just 11 days away.

Pre-season is also an excellent time for fringe players and youngsters to prove their value and make an impression on the manager, and Reiss Nelson is no exception.

Nelson shared a brilliant snap on his Instagram story with Joe Willock and Eddie Nketiah after the game, and he captioned it with a series of heart and butterfly emojis, emphasising how the young crop are finally getting out of their cocoon.

Nelson and Willock combined well at times in the first half, and the young trio will certainly be hoping to feature more for Unai Emery next term.

Nketiah joined the fray for the second part of the game, but unfortunately, the Gunners couldn’t muster a response after Lyon took the lead.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to increase their stadium capacity, the club have confirmed.

What’s the word?

Spurs’ new stadium, built at a cost of £1bn, currently has a capacity of 62,062, making it the largest in London.

And they have now announced that they have received the green light to add 152 seats to the state-of-the-art arena.

That will take the new capacity to 62,214, with the seats to be situated in the North and South stands.

Not a player

One imagines that fans would have rather seen the club announcing a signing on Monday, instead of a barely noticeable capacity increase.

Of course, Spurs have spent huge money to ensure that their stadium is one of the best in the country, if not the very best.

But, really, with transfer deadline day looming – the club have until Thursday to complete their business – and only one first-team acquisition, Tanguy Ndombele, having been made, this feels like a bit of a joke.

Let’s not forget that just last week fans were passionately calling for the Lilywhites to show more support to Mauricio Pochettino after what they deem to be an underwhelming window.

The links with Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso and Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes continue apace, while Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon is said to be close to a move.

The club, though, are announcing the addition of 152 seats to their stadium.

According to InfoSevillista, Premier League newcomers Aston Villa have launched an ambitious €32m (£29.5m) bid for forward Wissam Ben Yedder which has left many fans in the West Midlands dreaming of the unthinkable.

Ben Yedder scored 18 goals and laid on nine assists in 35 La Liga appearances for Sevilla last season which was the sixth-best goal return in the league with only the usual Spanish league suspects ahead of him in Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema and Luis Suarez.

Villa boss Smith has already broken the club’s transfer record once this summer by singing striker Wesley Moraes for £22m from Club Brugge as their deals this summer have surpassed a total of £130m.

Numerous supporters took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the ambitious move with one fan saying he would take him in a heartbeat but had doubts over whether it would actually happen.

Others called him world-class and amazing, claiming that he would be a better option than Neal Maupay, who the club were linked with earlier in the summer.
