Mike Procter has stood down as an ICC match referee to take up his new role as Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) convener of selectors.Procter, who officiated in 47 Tests, 154 ODIs and 15 Twenty20 internationals since becoming a match referee in 2002, will take up his new job on December 1 after completing his obligations with the ICC. His last two series will be between Pakistan and West Indies in Abu Dhabi, followed by Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.”Speaking from personal experience I know that his new role as CSA’s convenor of selectors will be a challenging and rewarding one,” said ICC’s chief executive, Haroon Lorgat. “However, I also know that Mike will bring to it all the cricket wisdom he has acquired over more than 40 years of top-level involvement.”His starting date with CSA, arrived at after negotiations between us at the ICC and CSA chief executive Gerald Majola ahead of CSA’s announcement, allows Mike to complete his obligations as a match referee before assuming his new role.”This is important because it sets a definitive mark between the end of one job and the start of another and, in terms of Mike’s position as a match referee, it ensures the continued integrity and independence of that role.”

تلقى نادي ليفربول عرضًا من نظيره نادي نوتنجهام فورست للظفر بخدمات الظهير الأيمن نيكو ويليامز، في موسم الانتقالات الصيفي الحالي.

أمضى الدولي الويلزي الأشهر الأخيرة من الموسم الماضي على سبيل الإعارة مع فولهام وساعدهم في رحلة الصعود إلى الدوري الممتاز للمرة الثالثة في غضون خمسة مواسم.

كان أول خروج على سبيل الإعارة لـ ويليامز في مسيرته بعد أن أمضى 13 عامًا في صفوف ليفربول، ولكن يُعتقد أن ويليامز يريد أن يلعب كرة القدم بشكل منتظم في الأشهر الأولى من حملة 2022/23 حيث يتطلع إلى الحصول على مكان في منتخب ويلز الوطني لكأس العالم في قطر.

Aston Villa could launch a £15m bid for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones in the final days of the window, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon.

And, as to be expected, a number of Villa supporters have been reacting to the links on social media.

Nixon shared a story late on Saturday evening, claiming Villa are set to try their luck regarding the 20-year-old with an enquiry.

Jones can play as a central, attacking or left midfielder and still has four years left on his Anfield deal. He’s made 47 senior appearances for the Reds and has been involved in 13 goals, scoring seven and providing six assists.

The Englishman is yet to feature this season, though, and it appears as if Villa could launch a late swoop for the Liverpool man.

علّق المدافع السابق لفريق ليفربول جيمي كاراجر على تجديد عقد النجم المصري محمد صلاح، مساء أمس بشكل رسمي.

وكان ليفربول قد أعلن توقيع محمد صلاح على عقد جديد في الأنفيلد حتى عام 2025، وتشير التقارير إلى أنه سيحصل على 400 ألف جنيه إسترليني ليصبح اللاعب الأعلى أجرًا في النادي.

وقال كاراجر في تصريحات نشرتها شبكة “ليفربول إيكو” الإنجليزية: “أعتقد أن الكثير من مشجعي ليفربول خلال الأشهر القليلة الماضية كادوا يستسلمون لحقيقة أن صلاح قد ينتظر آخر 12 شهرًا من عقده ثم يمضي قدمًا، والشعور بأن النادي لن يستجيب للأرقام التي يريدها أو يشعر أنه يستحقها بالنظر إلى عمره وهيكل الأجور”.

وأضاف: “أعتقد أن حقيقة رحيل ديفوك أوريجي وساديو ماني تعني أنهما ربما تمكنا من الاقتراب من الأرقام التي أرادها صلاح، أعتقد أن الجميع مسرور للتو بتوقيعه وقدرته على تكرار ما فعله في السنوات الخمس الأولى، خلال المواسم الثلاثة المقبلة، وأنا متأكد من أنه يستطيع فعل ذلك”.

سيطرت المفاوضات على التقارير الصحفية طوال الموسم الماضي، وعندما سُئل عما قد يكون قد تغير لإنهاء الأمر، اعترف كاراجر أن الأمر يتعلق بالجانب المالي للصفقة.

واستكمل: “لم يصل ليفربول أبدًا إلى هذا المستوى من حيث الأرقام، وبالتأكيد تحت قيادة المُلاك الحاليين، لديهم طريقة ونموذج وأعتقد أن الكثير من مشجعي ليفربول يحترمون ذلك لأنه حقق الكثير من النجاح”.

Speaking to Football Insider, Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson has blasted an ‘under the radar’ summer transfer gaffe at Tottenham Hotspur.

Since the club announced his appointment in mid-June, a lot of eyes have been directed at new transfer chief Fabio Paratici as chairman Daniel Levy takes a back seat from transfers.

Over his first summer window, the Italian oversaw a plethora of incomings and outgoings at N7 but only time will tell whether his deals will come to fruition.

One area he didn’t gain much luck in was signing a back up striker to superstar Harry Kane, with former England international Robinson now dropping a claim.

The Latest: Robinson blasts ‘under the radar’ transfer gaffe…

Speaking to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham man has blasted Spurs for their failure to land another forward in the summer.

Robinson also believes the transfer gaffe has gone ‘under the radar’ and lots of people ‘have missed’ this blunder.

“It’s gone under the radar [the failure to sign a striker],” he explained.

“A lot of people have missed the fact that Spurs have not signed another striker.

“Vinicius has gone back because he was only on loan last season. To let Vinicius go without replacing him could be an oversight by Spurs.

“All of the talk in the last window was about – what if Harry Kane gets injured? When he was injured last season they struggled and they did not score goals.

“Yes, Son and Bergwijn can play there but they are not out-and-out number nines like Kane.

“People have forgotten about that because of all of the hype surrounding the potential Kane transfer and other deals. There is no direct cover in that area.”

The Verdict: Bang on the money…

Even though Paratici finally signed Spurs a star centre-half, brought in a couple of future stars, a goalkeeping alternative and very exciting right-back (Transfermarkt), we believe the failure to land an out-and-out centre-forward could indeed come back to haunt them.

Nuno is just one or two injuries, specifically to Kane or Son Heung-min, away from a real first team crisis with the only other natural option being teenager Dane Scarlett.

The last thing Spurs will want is to rely on the dazzling but inexperienced youngster and Paratici may have missed a trick in his failure to land a striker.
