Celtic legend wary of Furuhashi interest

Celtic legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has warned his former club that other teams could attempt to sign key Hoops figure Kyogo Furuhashi.

The Lowdown: Furuhashi excelling for Celtic

The Japan international made the move to Parkhead in the summer transfer window, joining from Vissel Kobe in his homeland.

Furuhashi has taken little time to settle into his new surroundings, scoring seven goals in just eight Premiership starts. That included a brace in Sunday’s 4-2 win away to Dundee, as he continues to go from strength to strength.

He has also netted five times in Celtic’s European campaign, with 13 goals in just 18 Hoops appearances thus far, along with three assists (Transfermarkt).

The Latest: Dalglish wary of possible interest in Furuhashi

Writing for The Sunday Post, Celtic icon Dalglish admitted that other clubs could soon be circling to sign the 26-year-old, but claimed that the forward currently looks happy at Parkhead.

He described Furuhashi as an “outstanding footballer” and added:

“Of course, success brings a glare from elsewhere, and I don’t think any of us would be surprised if Kyogo is already now on the radar of other clubs.

“But any interested parties would also know that they are unlikely to receive any encouragement from Celtic about trying to prise their main man away any time soon.

“Kyogo is clearly enjoying his football. You can see that with the way he plays, and the way he celebrates scoring with his team-mates.

“That’s all part of the overall package, and why I think Celtic look in a very good place just now.”

The Verdict: Celtic must keep hold of Kyogo

Furuhashi has taken no time at all to become a vital figure for Ange Postecoglou’s side, bringing immediate firepower and quality to proceedings.

The Japan international looks set to be a key figure in Celtic’s Premiership title charge as they look to wrestle back their league crown from Rangers. Indeed, he is the joint-top scorer in the division heading into the November international break.

Furuhashi is only currently valued at £1.8m by Transfermarkt but that could change drastically if his current form continues throughout the campaign. That could also alert him to other suitors, just as Dalglish has warned.

Hauritz battles the pain

Nathan Hauritz ignored a badly bruised middle finger to dismantle England’s top order but his brave performance was not enough to stop Australia from needing a monumental effort to save the second Test

Nathan Hauritz ignored a badly bruised middle finger to dismantle England’s top order but his brave performance was not enough to stop Australia from needing a monumental effort to save the second Test. Hauritz, who suffered a dislocation on Thursday, felt few signs of discomfort in taking the first three wickets before tiring late in the day as the hosts sped towards a lead of 521.He now has nine victims, the same number as Ben Hilfenhaus, to lead Australia in the series, a result which was unthinkable two weeks ago when Hauritz was battling for control and Brett Lee was still fit. After coming from the fringes of the New South Wales squad in 2008-09, he has developed to the point where he is now a threat even when not fully fit.Given four overs either side of lunch after Australia were dismissed for 215 in reply to England’s 425, he trapped Alastair Cook playing back to a ball that failed to spin. In his next over he removed Andrew Strauss, edging to first slip, and there was briefly some hope from the tourists that they might have an achievable chase.Kevin Pietersen arrived, lifting Hauritz over midwicket for four, and Hilfenhaus was called immediately to replace the offspinner at the Nursery End. His figures read 4-1-12-2, but he had to wait until the third session for another opportunity.A thoughtful player who captained youth teams growing up in Queensland, he was partly to blame for the decision. “I even suggested it to Ricky,” he said. “Ben bowled the best out of our bowlers in the first innings and it was two right-handers and the ball was swinging. He looked like getting wickets pretty regularly and he bowled pretty tight.” The plan didn’t work and Hilfenhaus returned 0 for 59.It didn’t take Hauritz long to strike again when he was recalled, with Ravi Bopara bumping a catch to Simon Katich at short leg. Life became harder after that as Matt Prior and Paul Collingwood lifted the run-rate and Hauritz finished with 3 for 80 in 16 overs. In the morning he felt surprisingly good considering the damage a Strauss straight drive caused on the opening day. “I definitely wouldn’t have been able to bowl yesterday,” he said. “I spent the past two nights icing. The hardest thing today was spreading my fingers along the ball.”The middle finger takes a lot of the pressure, but once the adrenalin kicked in it became a lot easier. The only problem was the fingers did get tired really quickly because of the strength there.” There was also pain when he misfielded a ball at square leg off Andrew Flintoff and his hand touched the ground forcefully.Hauritz’s other main moment of action had come when he lunged low at mid-on to scoop at a flimsy pull from Bopara. After picking up the ball, risking more damage to his finger as it was squeezed into the field, he threw it in the air, but neither the bowler Mitchell Johnson nor the umpires were convinced. The decision was referred to the Nigel Llong, the TV official, who ruled it not out due to the doubt created by the camera angles.”I thought I caught it straight away,” Hauritz said. “I said to Rudi, ‘I caught it’, and he went to refer it and said it was inconclusive. I didn’t hear it hit the ground but the third umpire said it was inconclusive.”Australia’s only realistic hope over the next two days is to bat out the match to achieve a draw. England will declare early on the fourth morning – they had hoped to close the innings before stumps today but the light deteriorated – and Hauritz insisted they still had a chance.”We batted last week and scored over 600 in Cardiff,” he said. “We obviously didn’t bat as well as we would have liked in the first innings but that happens, that’s cricket. Whatever it takes, we’re going to have almost two days of batting. We just have to have a positive outlook and back our ability, that’s what we have to do.”

Wolves confident of permanent Hwang signing

Wolves are confident are sealing a permanent move for in-form Wanderers striker Hwang Hee-chan, according to journalist Danny Rust.

The Lowdown: Hwang linked with Premier League duo

The South Korean has made a flying start to life at Molineux, having moved there on loan from RB Leipzig in the summer.

Hwang has scored four times in his first eight Premier League appearances – only six of those have been starts – and has struck up a good relationship with Raul Jimenez.

According to a recent report, however, Liverpool and Manchester City are eyeing up a move for the striker, highlighting the importance of Wolves securing his services permanently.

The Latest: Journalist gives positive update

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Rust has provided a positive update from a Wolves perspective, though, claiming the club believe a deal can be struck:

“It’s important for them to try and get that deal done.

“But, likewise, this is one where you have to question whether Liverpool or Manchester City are going to be able to offer him the game time that he can get at Wolves? Almost certainly not.

“We’ll see what happens, but I’m sure Wolves are still confident they can get a deal done.”

The Verdict: Vital deal to secure

Hwang has taken to English football seamlessly and if Wolves could sign him permanently it could feel like a major piece of business considering the giants of the division are seemingly circling.

At 25, he should be about to enter the peak years of his career and 45 goals in 126 RB Salzburg appearances, not to mention winning 43 caps for South Korea, speaks for itself.

Hwang has been lauded as a ‘top player’ by Bruno Lage, and assuming his current form continues, tying him down permanently is a no-brainer for Wolves.

Sanchez must start for Spurs vs NS Mura

Tottenham Hotspur take a break from domestic action as they look to get back on track in the Europa Conference League with a trip to Slovenia to face NS Mura.

The north London outfit currently occupy second place in Group G, three points behind Stade Rennes, so they have work to do to qualify into the knockout stages but they do now face a side yet to win in the competition.

Antonio Conte’s very first game in charge of Spurs was three weeks ago when his side defeated Vitesse 3-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and since then, they are yet to lose under his stewardship.

He will be left with plenty of decisions to make after implementing rigorous training and fitness regime in amongst an international break and settling in at Hotspur Way.

We saw a glimpse of Davinson Sanchez on Sunday as he put in a reassuring and commanding cameo from the bench in the 2-1 win over Leeds United and he is surely in line to start against the PrvaLiga champions.

‘Replaced [Japhet] Tanganga with just over 20 minutes to go and he won some big headers and made some crunching tackles. Won everything that came his way,’ wrote football.london’s Alasdair Gold in his post-match ratings.

Indeed, the young academy gem struggled to combat Marcelo Bielsa’s side, with the Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick describing him as a ‘little clumsy’ and that he ‘did not look comfortable.’

As such, Sanchez deserves the nod over in Slovenia – in just 20 minutes of action, he won 100% of his four aerial duels, made three interceptions and two tackles, per SofaScore.

The £18m-rated Colombian international, who once cost a club-record £42m in 2017, has often been lambasted as a “liability” to the side but in moments like Sunday, he has shown his true potential.

Ex-manager Mauricio Pochettino has previously described him as a “beast”, so he should have no trouble in playing against a side of NS Mura’s quality, with all due respect, they are a team that Spurs should whitewash with very little trouble at the other end of the pitch.

But Sanchez has started only four times in the Premier League and will be in need of minutes, he could well become the ideal replacement for the seriously injured Cristian Romero.

If he plays like he did in the short time he did at the weekend, then he could terrify Mura’s frontline.

Zagueiros: Rodrigo Caio, Arboleda, Lugano e Bruno Alves
Volantes: Petros, Jucilei e Araruna
Meias: Maicosuel, Cueva, Lucas Fernandes, Hernanes, Jonatan Gomez, Thomaz e Shaylon
Atacantes: Lucas Pratto, Gilberto, Marcos Guilherme, Marcinho e Denilson

Younis wants to win Champions Trophy for Woolmer

Pakistan captain Younis Khan has said he wants to win the Champions Trophy in honour of Bob Woolmer, the team’s former coach who died during the 2007 World Cup

Pakistan captain Younis Khan has said he wants to win the Champions Trophy in honour of Bob Woolmer, the team’s former coach who died during the 2007 World Cup. “I’ll go to Bob’s home [in South Africa] and celebrate the Champions Trophy win with his family,” Younis told reporters ahead of the team’s departure for the tournament in South Africa.Woolmer was present during the last edition in 2006, in India, when Pakistan were plagued by off-the-field problems. Younis, standing in for the banned Inzamam-ul-Haq, had resigned in protest at being made a “dummy captain”. Middle-order batsman Mohammad Yousuf was appointed in his place, before Younis was handed back responsibilities a day later after a change in the PCB setup. The problems continued into the day before their opening match against Sri Lanka, when Pakistan had to withdraw fast bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif after both failed dope tests conducted before the team’s departure for India.”Those were testing times and Bob was very disappointed, when after winning the first match, we lost the next two, because he wanted to win the Champions Trophy,” Younis said. A year later, Pakistan unceremoniously exited the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies after losing to unheralded Ireland in the first round. The next day, Woolmer was found dead in his hotel room in Jamaica, and after being initially treated as murder by the Jamaican police, the death was declared to be due to natural causes.”Bob is the missing part of our cricket and we feel his absence,” Younis said. “I have been in regular touch with his wife and when we won the World Twenty20 in England in June we dedicated the trophy to Bob. This time too we will dedicate the trophy to him, because he lived in South Africa.”Pakistan, who have never won the Champions Trophy, are placed in Group A along side defending champions Australia, India and the West Indies. They start their campaign against West Indies on September 23.
