Liverpool and Reading fans react to Ovie Ejaria performance vs QPR

Both Liverpool and Reading fans have been reacting to Ovie Ejaria’s performance during the Royals’ 2-2 draw against QPR at Loftus Road on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old was one of the bright sparks for the visitors as Reading took a point back to Berkshire, but they still remain in 20th in the Championship table.

Ejaria provided the assist for George Puscas’ equaliser in the first half and played a big part in his side’s performance. He accumulated a pass success rate of 74%, made four successful tackles and won seven of his 13 ground duels.

The Liverpool loanee will spend the season at the Madejski Stadium, with a view to a permanent move.

Supporters of both Liverpool and Reading were pleased to see the former Rangers man performing the way he did.

One Liverpool fan said that he has a playing style similar to the Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, while another said that he would be a big loss if he leaves the Reds for good.

Here you will find some of the best responses from Liverpool fans:

Manchester United fans name McTominay as their Man of the Match

Manchester United fans finally have something to be happy about.

The Red Devils won their first away league game of the season against Norwich City on Sunday, and of course, spirits were high after the victory.

Supporters on Twitter were quickly asked to name their Man of the Match, and the results were resounding.

Scott McTominay was the name on many fans’ lips as he scored the opening goal of the game and put in a solid all-round performance.

‘McSauce’ as he is affectionately known has now scored two Premier League goals this term after netting his first against Arsenal a few weeks ago.

There were a number of contenders for Man of the Match at Carrow Road. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both found the net, while the Twitter user asking the question believed that Aaron Wan-Bissaka deserved the accolade.

Here’s what the Old Trafford faithful have been saying on Twitter after the match…

Wolves fans praise Adama Traore after recent positive displays

Wolves extended their unbeaten run to eight games with a 1-1 draw at Newcastle, thanks in part to a man of the match performance from Adama Traore.

He impressed several fans with his attacking threat on the right-flank, with many pleased by the way he linked up with Matt Doherty to create numerous chances for the visitors.

The winger is often criticised for his lack of end product but in recent weeks he has shown how devastating he can be with goals against Manchester City and Slovan Bratislava.

He added to that on Sunday with a cross that ultimately fell at the feet of Jonny, who was able to smash in an equaliser to ensure Wolves took something from the game.

Many fans are excited by his recent displays and believe he has improved a great deal under Nuno Espirito Santo, with some possibly believing the 23-year-old could become a key player for the side.

That would mark a big turnaround from last season, when he started only eight league games, and supporters are certainly thrilled by the way he has been playing.

Aston Villa’s Trezeguet needs to step up in Jack Grealish’s absence

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Aston Villa are set to be without one of their most influential players for the next couple of weeks as captain Jack Grealish faces a spell on the sidelines through injury.

The 24-year-old limped off against Manchester City with a suspected calf issue, and despite contrasting reports in the press this week, he will surely only feature if fully fit – which seems unlikely given he required crutches post-game.

The Daily Mail claim he could be out for two weeks, meaning he’ll miss Saturday’s game against league leaders Liverpool.

His form in recent weeks has been exceptional, scoring two goals and assisting one in his last three outings, per WhoScored.

On the Chalkboard

The skipper has been playing on the left-wing over the last few matches, so it will be down to Trezeguet and Anwar El Ghazi to fill the void left behind – Jota is also out injured.

El Ghazi has scored two and assisted three this campaign, so he’ll need to keep on doing what he’s doing, but on the other hand, the Egyptian has been far from decent.

Aston Villa’s summer signings’ performances so far this season are rated in the video below…

In nine appearances, Trezeguet has failed to register a single goal despite averaging 1.8 shots per game, which is the exact same number as Grealish, only the Englishman has actually stuck the ball in the net.

On top of that, only Wesley (2.3) records more unsuccessful touches than the 25-year-old (1.8), although that’s somewhat viable considering he plays as a sole striker.

Most damning of all is the fact that Trezeguet averages a measly 13 passes per game, which is the lowest of any player at Villa to start six or matches in the Premier League this term.

That’s astounding and only goes to show just how ineffective he is in matches.

The winger will need to seriously improve otherwise Dean Smith will harshly feel the repercussions of Grealish’s injury, and will probably rue the missed opportunity to sign another attacker during the summer window.

Aston Villa’s Frederic Guilbert making an impressive start to life in England

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Amidst all of Aston Villa’s transfer business across the last 12 months, one of Dean Smith’s lower-profile acquisitions is proving to be a something of a revelation at Villa Park after an impressive start to the 2019/20 campaign.

Although the club shelled out over £130m on 13 new players after their victory in the Championship playoff final against Derby County, the arrival of Frederic Guilbert, who had been confirmed as a new recruit in January, has proven to be a shrewd addition to Smith’s defensive options.

The Frenchman did not feature in his side’s first two Premier League games but has since emerged as a mainstay in the starting XI – starting all of Villa’s last nine league fixtures.

Although the West Midlands side have shipped 18 goals so far this season – with only the occupants of the relegation zone having conceded more – it is Guilbert’s contribution to his side’s attacking endeavours that has underlined his importance towards Villa’s bid to retain their top-flight status.

The 24-year-old’s importance to Villa’s attacking efforts is best defined in his involvement with his side’s attacking play. Having received 144 passes since making his Premier League debut, Guilbert sits top of any Villa defender – with Matt Targett in second with 94.

The right-back has also attempted the most take-ons (18) from any of Villa’s defensive options – over triple of the second-highest player in Tyrone Mings, with 5.

For successful passes in the final third, this is one area where Guilbert does not rank at the summit from his side’s defenders with 18, but he is only three behind Targett with 21.

These statistics point to a player whose duties are far more than defensive within Smith’s squad, and given Villa’s increasingly impressive proficiency in scoring goals – having scored more than any other side in the bottom nine – it will be vital that Guilbert continues this form in assisting his side for the 2019/20 campaign.

But for now, although the likes of Jack Grealish and John McGinn are performing admirably and rightfully gaining plaudits for their ten goal involvements, the former Caen man is going about his business in an impressive and efficient manner during his debut season in the top-flight.

Southampton fans react badly after Stuart Armstrong speaks out on 2-1 defeat

Southampton fans have reacted badly to Stuart Armstrong’s post-match comments, following the 2-1 defeat to Everton on Saturday.

The 17-cap Scotland international didn’t really go into much detail about the loss, simply stating how the game played out, which has prompted a furious reaction from some Saints fans on Twitter who seem tired of empty soundbites coming from the team.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men suffered their eighth defeat of the Premier League campaign with defeat against the Toffees, a result that leaves them in 19th place – just one point off the bottom of the table.

No team has conceded more goals than Southampton’s 29 concessions, while the south coast side have scored just 11 themselves – the third-lowest total in the top-flight.

Armstrong’s comments didn’t really contain anything that should’ve triggered supporters, but his words have sparked an angry reaction from some fans who seem tired of the right things being said, but no positive changes actually happening.

Let’s take a look at some of the tweets…

Liverpool fans rave about Ben Chilwell during England outing

Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell played a key role in England recording a 7-0 win over Montenegro in Thursday night’s Euro 2020 qualification match.

Indeed, the left-back assisted each of England’s first three goals at Wembley, setting up Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the opener before helping Harry Kane score his first two.

What’s more, WhoScored have the 22-year-old down as boasting an 88% pass success rate, in addition to completing three dribbles and four tackles.

It remains to be seen whether the Leicester defender will start the opening match of Euro 2020.

However, his performance on Thursday night would have surely impressed Gareth Southgate.

A number of Liverpool fans were also very impressed with what they saw from Chilwell against Montenegro, with many taking to social media during the contest to react.

Some claimed that they wanted the left-back to arrive at Anfield, whilst others were just keen to pay tribute to the 5 ft 10 ace.

Arsenal fans want Mauricio Pochettino as new manager after Tottenham sack him

A number of Arsenal fans have revealed that they want Mauricio Pochettino to become their new manager.

Tottenham Hotspur sacked Pochettino as head coach on Tuesday night, meaning that the Argentine is now a free agent.

Spurs have only won three of their 12 Premier League matches this season to sit 14th in the table, but Arsenal have their own problems, and there remains huge speculation surrounding the future of current boss Unai Emery.

The Gunners are currently on a run of five matches without a win in all competitions, whilst they have not been victorious in the league since overcoming Bournemouth at the start of October.

A number of Arsenal fans have been discussing Tottenham’s decision to sack Pochettino, who led the club to a Champions League final last season.

And many of the supporters would be in favour of a swoop for the South American despite his connections with their bitter rivals.

Manchester United fans should keep their eyes peeled for Nicolo Zaniolo

This article is part of Football FanCast’s One to Watch series, which focuses on those players we think are particularly worth keeping an eagle-eye on as the 2019/20 season unfolds.

Club football is finally returning this weekend after a long international break and with it, Roma are also back in action.

The Italian giants will face Brescia on Sunday afternoon and this will be an excellent opportunity for the Gladiators to get back to winning ways after tallying two consecutive losses across the board.

But this clash might be of interest to more than just Roma and Serie A fans.

In fact, Manchester United supporters might want to tune in and watch this clash as well and pay special attention to one man who’s likely to play for the home side: Nicolo Zaniolo.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has been reportedly identified as one of the Red Devils’ potential targets as they have already scouted the youngster, as per reports coming from Il Messaggero.

And the same source claims the English side’s scouts have seen Zaniolo in action against Armenia when his country, Italy, steamrolled their opposition, winning 9-1.

The best part, however, is that the 20-year-old was fantastic in that game, registering two goals and one assist in the process. They happened to be his first for the national team in a total of five senior caps.

But he’s been largely impressive back in Serie A as well.

[ad_pod ]

Despite his young age, he’s already mustered 16 games across all competitions, including four in the Europa League where he also managed to score two goals.

As a whole, he boasts five strikes across the board and one assist as well but what definitely emphasises his importance to the Roman Gladiators is the fact that he’s the team’s third-best goalscorer in Serie A, only behind Aleksandar Kolarov and Edin Dzeko with four and five goals respectively.

Needless to say, he is someone big teams could very well be fighting for in the not so distant future, that’s if he continues developing like this.

Of course, whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer actually needs him in his squad at this point in time is a discussion for another time but what better way to evaluate Zaniolo than to see him in action once again? It would surely be difficult for the Red Devils to turn down a player who possesses such quality.

With Roma’s Sunday opposition, Brescia, sitting dead last in the table, we could potentially expect fireworks.

And if the season so far has been any indication, when there are fireworks for Roma, Zaniolo is usually pretty close by.

Manchester United fans better not miss it.

West Brom’s predicted XI vs Preston North End

West Bromwich Albion aren’t in action until Monday evening when they face a trip to Preston North End and the pressure could well be on depending on this afternoon’s turn of events.

The Baggies’ nearest challengers are Leeds United, who are only two points behind them in the Championship standings and they face a struggling Middlesbrough side, so there’s a good chance Albion lose their throne for at least a couple of days.

Slaven Bilic faces an almighty selection dilemma, as for the first time in a while, he has a fully fit squad to choose from, so how will West Brom line up?

It is fair to suggest that the quintet of Sam Johnstone, Kyle Bartley, Semi Ajayi, Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers are the first names on the teamsheet as they have all started in every single game when available – only suspension has stopped two of them from playing 100% of matches this term.

Despite that, it is likely that Bilic names a fully unchanged starting line up even with so many names pushing for places.

Charlie Austin has scored in back-to-back matches from the bench while Hal Robson-Kanu has been gifted with starts following a very similar run of form – given that he has five goals in seven games now, he is likely to be the man that starts.

While Darnell Furlong had to make way for Nathan Ferguson on Wednesday night with Kieran Gibbs also returning to the side for the first time since August, and then there is Conor Townsend too.

Gibbs even scored in their thrashing of Bristol City while the 19-year-old starlet, who could leave in January, slotted back in at his regular right-back position as if he had never been gone. Therefore, these two should keep their places at full-back.

In other news, the latest snag in Albion’s chase of former loan ace Dwight Gayle could actually be a blessing in disguise…
