Tottenham and chairman Daniel Levy by extension are indeed keen to sign a club's 21-year-old star, as per recent reports, with a move described as in the "early" stages.
Spurs making early January moves
In what has been the most eventful January transfer window at Spurs in recent memory, the club have officially confirmed two major signings already for manager Ange Postecoglou.

Timo Werner joined from RB Leipzig on a six-month loan earlier this week, and Tottenham swiftly followed up the German's arrival by putting pen to paper on a deal for defender Radu Dragusin.
In the space of a week, Spurs impressively moved to strengthen Postecogolou's attack and defence, with centre-back Dragusin in particular coming as a much-needed new addition.
The Lilywhites have been forced to deploy both Emerson Royal and Ben Davies as makeshift centre-halves in recent months, with first-choice stars Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero often unavailable through injury or suspension.
According to reports, Postecoglou is now keen to sign a new midfield number eight for Spurs, and one who can alternate with playmaker James Maddison when required.
This has resulted in many links to Chelsea star Conor Gallagher, who has enjoyed a brilliant season under Mauricio Pochettino. The west Londoners could be forced to sell Gallagher in January to fund their own transfer activity, as per rumours last month, so this transfer may well be one to watch.
Elsewhere, new targets are occasionally emerging, including Napoli defender Leo Ostigard despite the club's signing of Dragusin. Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney has also been linked with a move to Spurs, and journalist Dean Jones has provided an update on the situation.
Spurs move for Hackney at "early" stage
Speaking to GiveMeSport, the reporter backed Tottenham's interest in the 21-year-old as genuine. However, a possible Spurs move for Hackney is said to be at the "early" stages.
"Hayden Hackney is the talk of the town after his goal against Chelsea, and it might not be too long before he is testing himself against teams of that quality every week," said Jones.
"Spurs are the side being talked about as the favourites to sign him, but that is not quite the case because Middlesbrough refuse to consider anyone as likely to sign him at this moment in time.
Hayden-Hackney-and-Michael-Carrick
"It is true that Spurs have interest, but this is a very early stage of that process, so there is scope for plenty of other teams to challenge for his signature."
Hackney has starred for Boro this season, making 16 Championship appearances, so it's little wonder Levy and the Spurs recruitment team are keeping a watchful eye. Indeed, their manager and ex-Tottenham midfielder Michael Carrick described him as Boro's "shining light".
Chris Rushworth grabs three wickets with home side needing seven more on final day
ECB Reporters Network15-Jul-2019Durham require seven wickets on the final day to defeat Worcestershire in their Specsavers County Championship Division Two clash at Emirates Riverside after reducing the visitors to 31 for 3 in their second innings. The home side were able to build a match-winning position, accumulating runs with relative ease over the course of the day. Jack Burnham led the way with a brisk fifty – matching his highest score of the season. Ed Barnard claimed four wickets for the second time of the match, but he was powerless to prevent Durham setting a daunting total of 352.Chris Rushworth tore through the Worcestershire top order in the final hour, reducing the visitors to 11 for 3. Callum Ferguson and Ross Whiteley were able to dig in to see out the rest of the session unscathed, although it will take a huge effort for them to avoid defeat on the final day.Durham began day three on 28 without loss with Cameron Bancroft and Alex Lees at the crease, holding a lead of 87 runs over the visitors. Bancroft – playing his final match before joining up with the Australia training squad ahead of the Ashes – made a good start to the day, scoring two boundaries off the first two deliveries from Charlie Morris. He and Lees put on fifty for their opening stand, but Bancroft was to fall for 28, caught behind off a seaming Barnard ball. Lees kept up the momentum for the home side, grinding his way to 40 before he was bowled off his inside edge by Dillon Pennington.Barnard tried to drag Worcestershire back into the contest after lunch. He clipped the off stump of Gareth Harte before dismissing Graham Clark, who chopped a wide delivery onto his stumps. Ryan Pringle was then pinned lbw by Morris to give the visitors a glimmer of hope after reducing Durham to 142 for 5.However, Burnham held his composure at the other end to reassert the home side’s control. The 22-year-old took the attack to the Worcestershire bowlers, reaching his third half-century of the season. Burnham kicked on after passing the milestone, finding the boundary with regularity. He cleared the fence and pulled Whiteley to the rope before the bowler had his revenge when Burnham clipped the ball loosely to Ferguson at mid-wicket.Ned Eckersley and Ben Raine continued their exploits from the first innings pushing Durham’s lead over the 300-run mark to compound the visitors’ frustration. The duo put on fifty for the seventh wicket before Raine was bowled by Joe Leach for 28, while Eckersley soon followed to Barnard, edging the ball onto his stumps. Nathan Rimmington and Brydon Carse carried the home side to a lead of 350 before Bancroft declared. It did not take long for Rushworth to make inroads, striking in his second over to clean bowl Daryl Mitchell through the gate, to claim his 50th first-class wicket of the season. Rushworth was on point again to remove Riki Wessels’ middle stump, while Joshua Dell continued the procession, trapped lbw by the veteran seamer, leaving Worcestershire 11 for 3.Ferguson and Whiteley held firm amid impressive bowling from the hosts to survive the rest of the evening session, although the visitors still require 321 runs to win.
This was the antithesis of Festival cricket. It was Division One cricket, it mattered and everybody knew it

Yorkshire 327 (Fraine 106, Clark 5-77) and 303 for 9 (Lyth 68) lead Surrey 362 (Stoneman 100) by 268 runsSurrey are back at Scarborough for the second successive season and those Yorkshire spectators who like their Championship cricket hard-bitten might be in the mood to book them in for the next decade. This was the antithesis of the Festival cricket that was once the soul of the town. It was Division One cricket, it mattered and everybody knew it. And a compelling finale could be in prospect as Yorkshire resume with a lead of 268 with the last pair at the crease. This match has felt too close to call from the outset, but at no time was the contest keener than in a wary fifth-wicket stand of 57 in 26 overs between Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Johnny Tattersall on either side of tea. Yorkshire’s lead when they came together was 133, Rikki Clarke having removed Adam Lyth, driving at one angled across him on 68, and Jack Leaning in successive overs.Spectators dwelt upon Leaning’s pair in the match – lbw this time to Clarke as he got too far across to one that swung back a shade – and wondered with good reason if his middle-order place might be vulnerable to Harry Brook. But while they chatted they watched intently, as they always watch. A Scarborough spectator on the popular banking can surreptitiously check their change at the bar and criticise a bowling change at the same moment. It while attention was at its height that Gareth Batty added his own personal brand of spice; he should come in a little jar with refills available. Batty is Bradford born, educated at Bingley Grammar, but that is no protection from occasional barracking and every time the crowd did so they sharpened him. They would have been better yawning with a faked lack of interest.Batty is so stingy at giving away the slightest advantage that if he managed one of the amusement arcades on North Bay you would be best advised to visit the one next door where you would lose your money more slowly. His return of 1 for 75 in 30 overs suggest that Yorkshire dealt with him competently enough, but it was a close-run thing. He possessed two warm-up acts in medium-pacers Ryan Patel and Rikki Clarke. Patel appealed for a catch at the wicket when there was daylight between the ball and Tattersall’s outside edge; the crowd’s derision was sparked. Clarke followed up with a series of oohs and aahs against the same batsman as he defended determinedly, the slips taking their cue and hamming it up in turn; the derision level went up a further notch. When the cricket is consequential, Batty comes alive. His face creases with exasperation, making use of every one of his 41 years, he puffs out his cheeks meaningfully in disbelief at a rejected appeal and he considers the minutiae of every delivery as if the world might suddenly end if he moved square leg in the wrong direction. The unsupportive umpire, Ian Blackwell, the same age as Batty, also a former spinner, but a considerably bigger figure than when he retired seven years ago, moved slowly to square leg at the end of the over as if in search of a bit of peace.”Tek ‘im off,” came the cry as the new ball loomed. But Batty wasn’t takken off. He negotiated two more overs and got his wicket, switching around the wicket to have Kohler-Cadmore stumped for 42 as his back foot strayed momentarily, a rapid reaction from Surrey’s stand-in captain and keeper Ben Foakes. The new ball came after 83 overs, at 242 for 5, and Tattersall fell three overs later, his 38 spanning 103 deliveries, as he fenced at Sam Curran and was caught at first slip. Yorkshire looked vulnerable, their lead 216, four wickets standing, but a foray from David Willey – 43 from 35 balls with eight fours against the new ball – swung the match again.Throughout it all, a low murmur could be heard around North Marine Road. The cricket is never incidental at Scarborough, but it is an excuse for conversation, including for some who are not by nature conversational. That conversation would extend into the evening in a town that mixes natural grandeur with the downbeat consequences of human failure, and which often appears to survive hand to mouth, but which for all that with the simple addition of a dual carraigeway the length of the A64 and a faster train route remains a place of huge potential, the prince of England’s seaside towns.
All was going smoothly for Liverpool this season up until last week. The Reds are top of the Premier League, through to the Carabao Cup final, through in the FA Cup and through in the Europa League. That joy was turned to panic when Jurgen Klopp announced that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the current campaign though, and FSG must now begin planning for a new man at the helm – and a squad in his image.
Liverpool eyeing a true "genius" manager to replace Jurgen Klopp
FSG have their work cut out in identifying a successor to lead ‘Liverpool 2.0’
ByAngus Sinclair Jan 30, 2024
Indeed, Liverpool's hunt for reinforcements doesn't come to an end with Klopp's announcement, as they look to hand their next manager every chance of carrying the torch that the German set alight.
Liverpool transfer news
Klopp has at least set Liverpool up well – he won't be leaving a squad in disarray. Instead, he will leave having built Liverpool 2.0, with a transformed midfield and frontline raring to go. He could yet be leaving Merseyside as a Premier League champion once again too, given that the Reds currently sit top of the tree in England's top flight. Securing the silverware would certainly go a long way in attracting players, including one particular Arsenal target.
According to Goal in Brazil, Liverpool have enquired about signing Ederson from Atalanta in what would be a summer move – a welcome present for the new boss. They would have to beat the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain to the midfielder's signature though in a tightly-contested race for his signature in the coming months.
Atalanta midfielder Ederson
Liverpool, of course, spent the entirety of last summer strengthening their options in the middle of the park following the departures of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner. Having welcomed Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai, however, those at Anfield haven't looked back since. Now, they could get the final piece to the puzzle in the form of Ederson.
"Energetic" Ederson can unlock Mac Allister
As impressively as Mac Allister has settled into his role at the base of Liverpool's midfield, it is not his natural position. The Argentine operates best when in a slightly more advanced role like the one he played with great success at Brighton & Hove Albion. The arrival of Ederson would instantly allow Liverpool to make what could be a crucial change to unlock Mac Allister's full potential, rather than limiting him to a deeper role. As highlighted by Bence Boscak, Ederson certainly has the defensive traits to play the role instead:
Ederson's stats also prove that he'd better suit the deeper position when compared with Mac Allister so far this season, carrying the defensive traits that the Argentine perhaps doesn't.

The transfer window slams shut tonight and West Ham United have been offered a chance to bolster their defensive options before the deadline passes.
Latest West Ham transfer news
David Moyes has already added England international Kalvin Phillips to his side on loan from Premier League champions Manchester City, and could now bring in an experienced full-back from Ligue 1.
According to L’Équipe, the Hammers have been offered Marseille right-back Jonathan Clauss in what would be a last-gasp deal before the window shuts.
West Ham boss David Moyes.
The report claims that the French side have begun to question his commitment to their cause after he went off injured against AS Monaco, despite the subsequent medical tests showing no signs of a serious problem.
This has opened the door for West Ham, and Turkish giants Galatasaray, and Moyes could land an upgrade on current right-back Vladimir Coufal by taking this opportunity.
Coufal's performances this season
The Czech Republic international has been a decent performer at the back for the Scottish boss in the Premier League throughout the 2023/24 campaign.
Coufal, who produced zero goals and one assist in 27 top-flight outings last term, has provided creativity and solid defensive work for the Hammers.

As you can see in the table above, the 31-year-old battler has come out on top in roughly half of his physical contests, which suggests that he has been fairly average in 50/50 duels.
Meanwhile, Coufal has pushed up the pitch in possession in an attempt to make things happen at the top end of the pitch with his passing and crossing.
The stats that show why Clauss would improve West Ham's team
The current West Ham defender has not been a liability for Moyes but the manager could improve his side by bringing in Clauss, due to his attacking quality at right-back.
He has made 18 appearances in Ligue 1 so far this season and contributed with three 'big chances' created, 0.6 dribbles completed per game, and 1.6 key passes per match.
His best form, however, came throughout the 2022/23 campaign for Marseille as he showcased his creative genius on a regular basis, as you can see in the table below.

Since the start of last season, Clauss has racked up 17 'big chances' created for the French side in 52 Ligue 1 outings. Whereas, Coufal has produced seven 'big chances' for his teammates in 47 Premier League matches during the same period.
The £47k-per-week Marseille gem, who was once hailed as "incredible" by ex-boss Igor Tudor, has also won 55% of his duels in the French top-flight this season.
These statistics suggest that Clauss could offer slightly more in physical duels than Coufal, due to his greater success rate in individual battles, whilst having the attacking quality to create high-quality chances for his teammates far more regularly, which is why Moyes should take this opportunity to sign the France international.
The India captain said he felt a bit exhausted during his Port of Spain century, but was determined to kick on because India needed a top-order contribution
ESPNcricinfo staff12-Aug-2019India captain Virat Kohli revealed that he felt “tired” halfway through his innings of 120 against West Indies in the second ODI, played in extreme heat and humidity at Port of Spain, but pulled through because one of India’s top three had to bat long to get them to a match-winning total.Kohli ended up hitting his 42nd ODI century, and was out for 120 in the 42nd over, driving India to what proved to be a match-winning 279 for 7.”Our target is always that one of the top three has to make a big score,” Kohli told Yuzvendra Chahal on after the game. “Shikhar [Dhawan] and Rohit [Sharma] have done it consistently in the past few months. I’ve done it when I’ve got the opportunity. Today, since neither of them got a big score, it was important that I stay for a longer time so that we can get to about 275-280.”Honestly, I was very tired after getting to 60-65, but the situation was such that I had to bat long, and I had to push myself to work a bit harder for the team. If you think about the team, even if you’re tired you get energy from somewhere. But it was quite challenging, also because there had been rain on the day and when the weather is like that it gets even hotter, so it was very humid too.”Elaborating on the lifestyle changes he has adopted and his fitness drive, Kohli said that not being at 100% would mean not doing justice to your team.”My mindset has always been simple: that I should contribute to the team in some way. If there’s an important catch, I want to take it; if there is a crucial run-out, I want to make it,” Kohli said. “I think every player should make their lifestyle and discipline in such a way that on the field you can give your full effort. If you are not giving your full effort on the field, then I don’t think you are doing justice to your team.”The way my lifestyle, training, recovery and diet is, all of it is geared towards making me contribute to the team in every way I can. So on tough days like these, when you have to run a lot for your runs, and in the field also you know the situation demands that you need to make an effort, it [his regimen] helps at those moments, and these small things can make a big difference.”Though Kohli’s innings tired him, on the field he still found energy to break into a jig, at one point even celebrating with Chris Gayle when the latter went past Brian Lara’s run tally in ODIs. Kohli put his good spirits down to being in a good space in his life.”I’m enjoying myself on the field. It is a blessing [to play cricket for India]. I don’t follow a typical mould that if I’m captain I have to stand all seriously,” he said. “I think it’s important to enjoy these moments. If there’s music playing, dance. Crack jokes with the opposition players too. I’m just in a very good space in my life, which is why I start dancing wherever I hear music.”
Glasgow Rangers head coach Philippe Clement has enjoyed a terrific start to life with the Scottish giants since he replaced Michael Beale in the dugout in October.
The English tactician, who has since joined and then departed English side Sunderland, was relieved of his duties whilst the Gers were seven points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table.
Clement has overseen a phenomenal turnaround at Ibrox that has left his team top of the table and two points ahead of their closest rivals after 26 league matches.
Glasgow Rangers managerPhilippe Clement.
The Belgian boss has only had one transfer window to shape his squad – in January – and brought in Mohammed Diomande, Oscar Cortes, and Fabio Silva to bolster his options.
It will be interesting to see what Clement is able to do in the summer with regards to the playing group, as it has been reported that he wants to lower the age of the squad.
Rangers star who could be allowed to depart
A recent report from Football Insider claimed that Gers star Tom Lawrence could be ditched at the end of the season, due to the manager's desire to piece together a younger side.
The outlet stated that Clement wants to bring in high-potential youngsters with the potential to develop as part of an exciting team at Rangers moving forward, which appears to spell bad news for the older contingent of Light Blues players.
Football Insider name Lawrence as one player who could be sold during the summer transfer window as any sale would be pure profit for the club, who signed him on a free transfer from Derby County in the summer of 2022.
Borna Barisic is also said to be on his way out of Ibrox on a free transfer at the end of the current season, as his contract with the Scottish giants is due to expire.
Borna Barisic
Whilst Rangers and the Belgian tactician could look to dip into the market to find high-potential players to replace the likes of Lawrence, Barisic, and others, they could also look to the academy to bring through and develop their own homegrown stars.
Ross McCausland has made 25 first-team appearances in all competitions so far this season, and contributed with three goals and four assists from the right flank.
18-year-old whiz Zak Lovelace also played twice in the Premiership earlier this term before suffering an injury, which shows that there are talented prospects coming through the B team.
With this in mind, Clement could unearth a dream homegrown replacement for Lawrence, should the midfielder depart on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window, by bringing Alex Lowry into the first-team set-up.
Alex Lowry's time with Hearts
The 20-year-old maestro spent the first half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Hearts in the Premiership and gained valuable minutes in the top-flight.
He started ten of his 12 appearances in the division as Steven Naismith provided him with plenty of opportunities to catch the eye in the middle of the park or out wide.
Lowry failed to score in those 12 matches but did contribute with two assists for the team, to go along with his one goal and two assists in two League Cup outings for the Jam Tarts.

As you can see in the table above, the Gers academy graduate showed glimpses of the quality he can provide in midfield with his ability to create chances and glide past opposition players with the ball.
However, the young gem was not a regular starter, possibly due to his lack of regular goals and assists, heading into the January transfer window and Naismith decided to send him back to the Light Blues.
Goals and assists may come for Lowry as he continues his development, though, as his record for Rangers at youth level has been particularly eye-catching.
Rangers midfielder Alex Lowry.
The talented wizard, who was once described as "dangerous" by ex-boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, racked up 12 goals and three assists in 16 appearances for Rangers B.
Lowry, who has produced two goals and two assists in 14 first-team matches for the club, has the potential to be a big goalscoring threat from midfield and could go on to emerge as a key player for Clement if he can translate that to senior level.
Tom Lawrence's form this season
The Wales international has made 13 appearances in the Premiership so far this season and, like Lowry, has caught the eye with his creative quality.
Lawrence, however, has not scored a single goal for the Light Blues in the top-flight this term, which means that they will not be losing a big goal threat if they decide to cash in on him.
The former Leicester City gem has, though, created four 'big chances' and assisted two goals for his teammates in those 13 league outings.

As you can see in the table above, both players have performed to a similar level in the Premiership this season, as they are both creative midfielders who have failed to find the back of the net.
At the age of 30, Lawrence is not a long-term option for Rangers and may have already reached the peak of his development, which is why Clement could cash in on him in the summer.
Tom Lawrence
The Gers should not plan to have the experienced whiz as a regular starter moving forward, due to his age, whereas Lowry is at the opposite end of his career at the age of 20.
He has the majority of his career, injury permitting, to look forward to and is a player the head coach can work with and develop over the years to come.
Even if Lowry does not establish himself as a regular starter next season, the academy prospect could learn from a player like Todd Cantwell and then look to break into the side consistently in the future.
Therefore, Clement could unearth a dream Lawrence replacement, and save the club millions, by bringing the youngster up into the first-team instead of swooping for a multi-million pound new signing.
Zimbabwe allrounder Solomon Mire has announced his decision “to retire from Zimbabwe Cricket in all formats with immediate effect”.”It is unfortunate and untimely however to leave under the current circumstances that are out of my control but i have decided to take a step in a new direction,” Mire said in a statement released via his personal Instagram feed.”Representing my country at the highest level for me has been the highest honour and service i could ever give and I have been extremely privileged to have been afforded the opportunity,” Mire wrote. “My short career has been a roller coaster of highs and lows, stops andstarts, frustrations and joys but will be one I shall look upon and cherish for the once in a lifetime opportunity I was lucky enough to experience and for that i would like to express my gratitude.”Mire, 29, played two Tests, 47 ODIs and nine T20Is for Zimbabwe, scoring one century and five fifties across formats, and taking a total of 14 wickets with his bustling fast-medium seamers. His top score of 112 came amid Zimbabwe’s historic series win over Sri Lanka in 2017,helping the team chase down Sri Lanka’s 316 for 5 with almost two and a half overs to spare – a record for the highest successful chase on Sri Lankan soil. While he never quite fulfilled his undeniable promise as a devastating batsman in white-ball cricket, Mire also currently holds the record for the highest score for Zimbabwe in a T20I for the 94 he scored against Pakistan last year.He made an impression in Zimbabwean domestic cricket while still a teenager over a decade ago, but it was Mire’s big hitting in Australian Grade Cricket that brought him to the attention of the national selectors. He made community paper headlines in July 2014 when he slammed a 157-ball 260, including 21 sixes, for Waratahs to set a new tournament record in the Darwin and District Cricket Competition. His exploits for Essendon in the Victoria Cricket Association Premiership had also led to a game for Victoria Under-23s, and then a handful of games for Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League in 2013-14 as a community rookie.Zimbabwe eventually came calling, and Mire cobbled together a pair of fifties in unfamiliar conditions in his debut series in Bangladesh in late 2014. He’d done enough to earn a place in Zimbabwe’s 2015 World Cup squad, with his experience of Australian conditions also adding to his value, and had been a regular in Zimbabwe’s squads since then.Mire thanked the various clubs and coaches in Zimbabwe and Australia that played a part in his development as a player, as well as his sponsors. “Also a special thanks to the fans,” he added. “I can hardly believe that I had fans from across the world, I’m sure most werefriends and to the ones I’ll never meet, thank you all so much.”I can say without a doubt that sport and in particular international cricket will always be my biggest lesson in life. Ever.”Mire informed his Zimbabwe team-mates and the national technical staff of his decision to retire after the recent tour of Ireland before going public with his announcement. With Zimbabwe currently under suspension by the ICC, more of those team-mates could soon follow himinto international retirement.”Been a pleasure playing alongside this man over the last couple years,” Kyle Jarvis tweeted. “Enjoy retirement @Kingsoly21 seems we are not too far behind you.”
